I know this is an old 23 channel (yes Bruce, i know what you are gonna say....) rig but are they any good? I saw one at a yard sale with a desk mike and the radio and the mike were both in great cond and working to boot! I have always been told the old johsnons were real talkers on AM. Didnt they use an internal voice compressor of sort to get louder audio?

They DO NOT HAVE ANY compression but REMEMBER what i said some VERY nice radios LIKE THIS ONE got tossed out with the junk ! Hoosier if i remember right that set is a crystal plexer so adding channles would be costly. Now if you want to ADD a prosser www.tentec.com sells a board for about 20 bucks ...... Ok hoosier just so you dont think im slipping IT'S A ILLEAGAL 23 CHANNEL SET !!!!! Wow got that out of my system!

Johnson's used plate modulation on the tube types, but i'm not sure about the solid state radios.

plate and choke were the 2 common ways both work
as for solid state colector modulation was standard
