This is the new Echo Mic Made by Ranger. It is NOT a Power Mic. Just a simple Echo board powered by the 8-Volt pin on the radios 4-pin plug in. So, you never need to change batteries in the Mic. Specially designed for the 696F-SSB Base and other 4-pin Ranger and Texas Ranger Radios. Ranger created this "Unamplified" Mic due to the fact that some radios DO NOT like power Mics. It is $49.00 on Rangers website and also comes pre-wired for 4 or 5 pin radios. You can order this Mic directly from Ranger. http://www.rangerusa.com/accessories.html

Agreed on the fact that it's junk.

Got it here and just plugged it in like Ranger claims. Didn't work at all. The website claims and sales also claims you just plug it in and go! Bull!!! I found out that in order to utilize this mic at all you have to modify the radio. HA! Do they think I'm stupid or something??? Last time I broke a damn seal on a radio (Based on the fact that their Tech Raul told me it was ok) I got burned. Because J.R at Ranger said anytime you break a seal your "out of luck" Now these ppl think I'm gonna be stupid and repeat the same mistake twice??? I think NOT. I sent it back and cancelled the payment on my credit card. Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me twice, Shame on me.
