Eagle: I recently scraped one but I kept the huge external speaker to run on my base station.Unless I'm mistaken President only markets the Washington now.

I had one a few years ago. I guess you could say it was my first real radio, or at least I thought so at the time. I haven't seen one since. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on another one that hasn't had the guts tore out it.

Actually, Uniden bought the President line of radios. From what I've been told President was a separate company until purchased by Uniden. I'm not sure when Uniden bought President, but I understand that Uniden only kept the "President" Washington and the Grant. Maybe the Lincoln, too, I'm not sure, but evidently the other President models like Madison and Adams bases, and the President Teddy Roosevelt are no longer being produced. Anyone know of anything different, let us know.

I have a "new" Uniden Washington base, unmodified, which is a great performing radio and nice-looking, too. But it has some somewhat subtle differences from the ORIGINAL President Washington. The original Washington had the logo "President" under the speaker and "Washington" is there on the Uniden version. Also, some of the earliest President Washingtons only had two push buttons on the lower right of the front panel, instead of three as the Uniden version now does. I've been told, though, that later models of the original President Washington also had three push buttons instead of just two.

There have been a number of original Washingtons on eBay recently, a couple of them looked in pretty good condition.
