I knew a guy up in north Texas who had a PDC-67 on his Washington base. He sounded like he was transmitting on a radio as big as a desk. Awesome strong audio. |

I just bought two Echomax 2000 mics from a local CB shop. After I paid for them I asked the owner if he knew that Astatic no longer made them.He said he didn't and if he had known he would have marked them up $50.00 higher.I already had the idea that shops would possibly pull that stunt, hence the reason I paid for them first. |

I have an EchoMax 2000 due to arrive in the mail today. Already wired for the Cobra 2000 (2000 seems to be a theme around here!). I'll let you know what I (and others) think of it. Harpoonman |

Harpoonman:I can tell you right now that the mike is a great performer. The one thing that I really dislike about it is the loose fitting phone style plug in for the mike cord.It can be hard wired. All of my contacts love it.73's |

It is the coolest base mike ever made. More suitable to export and older radios though, it has high treble and will sound quite "tinny" on Uniden/Cobra radios. |

In my local area there is a operator who is running a 2980 barefoot and a PDC 67.The other night I asked him what kind of mic he was using because it sounded "Studio" quality! He said that it is a PDC 67.He got it and the 2980 he was talking on from Copper Electronics.Prior to that night I had seen the ad for the mic in their catalog, but because it was priced so low I figured it couldn't be much of a mic. Boy was I wrong! He really likes it and has had no trouble with it. He said it adjusts to the level he wants and doesn't have to move it around like he did with his D104. I was very impressed with the audio quality as it was both super clean and rich sounding! I have a new Silver Eagle and an older D104 on a TUG 8 and plan on selling one of them and try a PDC 67. I like the idea of the flexible gooseneck so that you don't have to keep picking up the mic to move it withing reach every time you want to key up.73 to all! |

Just curous. Why is everyone concerned about being "LOUD"? IMHO id much rather sound clear and have a clean strong signal than be "loud"... |

I have had both mics I found the "67" to use batteries like crazy and couldn't get a adapter to work unless run by battery it buzzed, but that was just my 67 and could have been an isolated problem. As for the echomax they are great sounding mics but two things need to be watched out for, since you can't switch off the echo you can and most likely will get a tiny ping or blip in your audio from the echo when turned all the way off hardly noticable unless you look for it,and on my last echomax and a neighbors the phone mic cord connection went bad so baby that cord or it's 15 bucks for a new one.but you'll love the sound and it's beep is not annoying. |

Ahh yes the PDC 67-69. We used to make a PDC 66 which started it all. The PDC 67 was a nice mic and sounded good. I don't think the echo was quite as long as the 2000 but the audio quality was decent. The 68 and 69 are basic power mics and I imagine they are discontinued unless Astatic brought the line back. The 68 and 69 era was the begining of the end for PDC (Valor owned) and the 68 and 69 were good basic mics too. I find it amazing all the NOS floating around on the net. Glad you guys still support the products after all these years...

Didn't the PDC mics have compression? I've never used one, but I like compression mics. Are they comparable to the Turner +3? |

I don't remember a compander IC in them. I can look over the schematics again. The 67 had a 20dB "L" pad since we had some problems with the high gain it introduced. I will check the schematic but I don't recall any compression? |

Don't sweat it Geekster. If you don't remember they probably don't have compression. They're not in production anymore so it doesn't really matter. I was just curious. |
