Awesome little amp for the money. I have all the KLV bases except the 1000/1000p big ones. They all perform well, and are clean if you don't overdrive them. On AM, they like a nice low deadkey (1-1.5 watts, usually). On SSB, I drive my 250 with a Roadpro Titan II with about 12 watts pep, and get around 150 watts. The preamp is nice with a variable gain control. It is solid state, no tuning required. I've always been partial to tubes, but the 250 and the 550 are great solid state base amps.

I like to drive them easy, they don't like more than about 20 watt peak input.

That KLV 250 is a great amp. With a decent radio and good antenna it will make you one of the big boys.

I just bought a galaxy DX-2517 radio. What is a good base amplifier for this unit?

Harold,

Any of the Base Amplifiers would work well with it, depending on how much power you want to have and how much money you want to spend.

Does the klv 250 have a preamp? and where can I get one, at what price range? What is the beter dead key I should get my 2980WX adjusted to? It is at 4 watts D.K. right now, barefoot swings to maybe 8-10 watts. Running an Antron 99 20 ft. in the air. I live in a travel trailer and am sitting an RV park, so don't want to be running a lot of power as to keep bleed over at a bare MINIMUM!!!!!!!!!
