I am keen on this type of antenna.
Does anybody still use this ant. and what are your thoughts of their performance?
Are they stainless steel?
Does COPPER sell them?
If not who does?
How many variants are there,i.e. Are they available in 1,2 or 3 pieces for ease of export shipping?

They are solid stainless steel and in one piece. If they came in piecies it would distort their efectivness.

I have one and it works as good if not better than some of the more expensive ants.You can purchase one at your local CB shop or Rad Shak. |

Thanks Team,but no radio shack in my part of the world,41 Division,so will check out radio shack sites.I have seen a 102incher that broke down into 2 pieces,join in the middle,this is more preferable for shipping to my country

I have a 2 pc. steel whip and everyone that has owned one say that they give you more audio gain, I think they're right, I did a comparison and the two pc. outperformed the single. Wildbill |

back in the 90s I know Dick Smith Electronics used to sell both 9ft stainless antennas as well as a fibreglass version. Might pay to see if they still do. |

How does an antenna affect audio and associated gain? The two are NOT associated.

No flaming will occur. Us Moderators will see to that.
However, the fact is, an antenna CAN affect audio of an AM or SSB transmitter on one condition. The condition would be that the antenna is so narrow band that it cannot pass a full 10 kHz. or more of bandwidth. This would make the AM audio dull and lifeless while the SSB audio would be 'Donald Duck'ish (if that means anything).
When you look at phased arrays (not generally used for CB), then bandwidth becomes a real issue. In broadcasting, for MW (AM broadcast) and SW antenna systems, we strive for a wide bandwidth so that the audio will sound clean. An AM station with a narrowband antenna system will sound really bad. |

In what imaginary world are you going to find
an antenna with 10khz bandwidth?
And yes any antenna that has gain over another
will have louder sounding audio.

There are many antennas with 10 Khz bandwidth and even narrower bandwidths than that. Circulators are disigned with extreme narrow band paths. Where I work we use antennas that are so tight through a Circulator that line length and 50 ohm termination is so critical that a BIT failure will happen if the SWR is 1:12 or above (RDb). Not all antennas that have gain over a dipole (dBD) or dBI have so called more "audio" than others. It is based on the forward gain and compression factors that detirmine the ERP. The fact is , the "closer" the antenna and feedline are to "50" ohms at 27Mhz , the better it will sound becuase the EFF is raised to almost 100%. (of course 100% is never reached and some energy is waisted into heat). |

Hi Team,I am still searching for two 102" stainless antennas.Dick Smith Electronics and Radio Shack(Tandy) Australia no longer market them.Who knows where to find them and do the suppliers ship outside USA? |

You'll still find them at Radio Shacks. You may have to call around to your neigbouring towns are have someone who takes a trip out of state or area pick one up. I've seen them in Rad Shaqs here in Mississippi.

Hi Team,
Finally I found a Australian supplier of s/s whip antennas.
I bought one from the supplier when he visited our local radio club sale here in Hamilton,New Zealand.
I have now installed it on my 160 through to 10m "Bird Catcher" mobile antenna on the back of my 1998 Isuzu Wizard(Amigo?)
I hope to work some of you with it one day.

I love 102" SS whips! I have tried Fire Stick's,K40's,Wilson 5000 etc.... and none of them ever out did my cheap 102" SS whip. If their was a difference it could not be measured on the reciveing end of about 30 stations and hundreds of mobiles in the Hinesvill/Ft. Stewart Ga. area! Then you have durability I used to do a lot of off roading and only a 102" would survive everything tossed at it. 102" whips can be tricky some times because if they are too far away from the body or too close it will skew the SWR reading. If you use longer or shorter then 18' of it makes it hard to get an accurate SWR reading as well. 102" will take more power then any most people will ever have on their mobile.You will get a bit more noise on recive as they tend to generate a bit more static then fiber glass rod antena's. |

This is the first 102" whip I've ever used. I've always had something else. I'm very impressed! I should have gotten one a long time ago! Only thing is now I take out low lying branches lol |
