is the roof top wilson 5000 good for a base setup? it would be about 35 to 40ft in the air. if so how good do you all think it will do... cant run a regular base antenna, i live in a place that has a home owner association. |

Unless you had a steel roof to use as a counterpoise and a way to connect the ground side of things you would probably be very disappointed.
Check the many other posts concerning this subject.
Hope that sheds some light on the subject. |

Bradley you might be able to use a steel whip.
If not then unless you have have a steel roof like ironmask said you will be very disappointed. |

HEY BRADLEY what about a low profile base antenna there is one on ebay that might be worth checking out. HERE's the address. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3001260824&category=1501
AND its only 39" long you might be able to hide it.

You might want to consider a President Bazooka if your space restricted. 37" it's a noground vertical that can be used even on RVs. It matches up well recieves well and will handle plenty of RF. Will it get out! not as good as the big boys? But If you live near a body of water throw out a ground wire about 50ft and enjoy. |

Hey bradley. After I posted about the Saturn Base ant. I got to talking to a few people on the radio around here and I found out that there where two people talking on those hidaway base antennas. One of them was 20 miles off on a PRESIDENT BAZOOKA and I had 7 d.b's on him.
The other was on a SATURN BASE antenna. He was 15 miles away and I had 8 swinging 9 d.b's on him.
So I guess thoses lil antennas work pretty well.
And if your worried about alot of interferance
then the 500 watt pwr rating will be more than enough. |

Bradley... Maybe copper can get one for you. If not, I bought one as a temporary antenna.
When I got it I chuckled "no way" I'm not laughing now it put out pretty good. I'll keep it until this deep freeze lets me put up a stick in the spring. It's great for an emergency ant too. And or if I ever get that fancy RV I'll mount it.

If all else fails make a long wire and put it in a "V" but I would shy away from running power. |

CM 3885: I do not want to decieve you but those little stick antennas are OK not great. In a pinch they do fine. Were in a deep freeze and the wind and ice finally did in my 30 year old Outside CBB-1 Super Beacon. So I got one and put it up in the loft and got the surprise! surprise. It has real good recieve ears. But xmit is just OK locally. Remember it's a no ground antenna and cable length critical for a SWR match.
If you live in a condo with restrictions this is the way to go. When the weather breaks I'll put up a new big stick again and experiment with this little neat antenna. |

Im not saying ill go right out and buy one but i was making an observation.
