I just ordered my galaxy 959 can someone rate this for me? What does copper peak and tune consist of?What else should I have done this radio? It will be used with a wilson 1000 or maybe as a base from time to time.

I think you will like this radio, you get a lot for your money. i have a 949 and if the 959 has the same speaker you will want to get an external one for it, the stock one is junk.

I use a 959 for 11 meter am/ssb. it is a great radio. I find that if properly peaked and tuned, you will have no problem with shooting skip and local dxing. I especially like the variable power knob, so that when I use my KL amp, I can turn it down to 1.5 watts on am and talk all over.

I have a 959 that copper did a peak and tune on. I've had it for less than a week in my Jeep with a nothing special radio shack magnet mount antenna on the roof and have talked to Amarillo Texas from my home area in Breezy Point NY. No additional amp needed.
