These look like nice little radios? Anyone know how well these rigs (safely) can be tuned up? When you get the "Copper" tune up, do these radios do pretty do on AM with plenty of swing?

Good radio indeed, the only problem these style radios have is the leds likes to burn out quick on the new ones...

Do these radios have s-unit meters or power meters built in? Please don't send me to the advertisement as I cannot tell from the ad whether there is a meter or not.

Wow, you mean this thing has shift? How can they put so much in a radio for such a low cost? I assume the cost will still be relatively low compared to other radios. Thanks for the information and look forward to your review.

I posted a Quick Picture of it for the Forum Members in my other post on the MAGNUM 257 in the open area.

Soon I will be upgrading my mobile setup. I have worn out the volume knob on my 148 so now I need a radio too. I like the looks of the 257 and the front mic connecter is a plus for mounting in dash. Is it the same size as a 148? Can any owners give some opinions and how you like your 257? I will be driving an amp also. Oh and a big concern is noise. How good is the noise blanker and noise limiter?

Im the proud owner of a new blue 257, the day after i ordered mine the went on back order...i think i got the last one...lol. I have had it for about 2 months now and i love it, it is slightly quieter than the president jackson it replaced, but much MUCH cleaner. no button problems however it is a little hard to the the position of the knobs at night, i may put some flouresent paint in the notches though, the blue leds are sweet and plenty bright. the display is very easy to see from almost any angle. great export worth the price and more. would buy it again and again if i could make the choice again.

Did I understand right that Magnum is coming out with a new 257? I'm not just talking about the blue face but new one as in improved. What will be different if this is the case.

Mikefromms,

It will have the ERF 2030 Finals in it for MORE POWERRRRRRRRR.

Right now I am seeing between 35 to 40 watts PEP depending on which Mic I am using out of the HIGH POWER Mini Magnum with a Single ERF 2030 in it that I am doing a Review on.

And the SuperStar DM-452 sounds & works GREATTTTTTTTTTT on it.

Are the new ERF devices "drop in" Or does the drive circuitry have to be changed around?

Chad,

For Substituting the ERF-2030 finals for the 2SC1969 and 2SC2166 and 2SC2312 in radios like the galaxy and rci and other radios you need to make very Minor changes and replace about 8 pieces.

Well worth it for the EXTRA POWER.

Oh, absolutely! Hopefully there will be a mod written up soon. I would like to do this to my 257 as I have been using it barefoot more and more.
