I wasn't sure if I could get more out of it.
I paid $25 for it about three years ago and haven't used it.
Are there any popular freqs. that I could tune into that Hams hang out on?

it should cover 6 meters ( 52.525 ), 2 meters ( 145-148 ) and 440 ( 445-450 ) im not shure if that one goes on 10 meters too 29.60 |

I've only heard mention of the channel expansion mod.You might check some of the scanner mod web sites.I had one way back in the day,Bruce is right it was a good scanner. |

The 210 scanner is in good shape. Probably need to replace the back-up battery. I replaced the antenna on it with a Rad Shacker. It receives really well but I wanted to check out some freq's without having to scan all the time. I thought there might be some popular freq's to hang out on with out spending all the time searching. The 210 scans up when you program it but the scan area is somewhat limited as I recall. Any other thoughts??

the bearcat 210 was one of the FIRST home programmable scanners ... like BRUCE said it was limited to what it would recieve, but the main drawback in todays world is its limitation of memory channels...I own 2 of them got them used by folks that HAD to own the newer models that had 300 - 500 - 1000 memory channels ( you can only listen to one at a time )...and the 800 mhz stuff dont interest me any way..... i have 4 old BEARCAT III crystal scanners for set use...and the 2 BEACAT 210s are used for "spur - of - the moment " stuff that i dont listen to much and have no crystals for...I can listen with all 5 scanners at one time and it is rather FUN... especially when 3 - 4 of them all have something to say at one time ( try that with just one scanner that holds 300 - 500 channels ). it do get kinds noisy in the ole shack...but I do hear all that any participitating parties have to say, and dont miss a single thing. You folks might try getting several 10 - 20 channel scanners, put 2 - 5 BUSY frequencies in each one, and miscallaneous stuff in the other memory channels... that way if scanner #1 gets busy, the other 4 are still scanning ...or if # 3 and # 5 get busy the other 3 are still scanning... or get some of the old CRYSTAL type like BEARCAT III or IV or the John son or radio shack or the regency or midland old crystal type... the options are almost endless... |

KD4AMG - You've got a good system worked out. I've got a method of my own that I use with about a dozen scanners, though I only use 3 - 5 at a time. I listen primarily to police but I'll listen to emergency services if something is going on in my neighborhood. I usually do things this way:
I have one monitoring the police dispatch frequency constantly.
Another is set to the police traffic channel that is used to relay information about the people stopped for traffic violations. Warrants, license information, registration checks - that kind of thing.
I use a third to scan through the car to car frequencies.
A fourth scanning through the local government frequencies that the police aren't really supposed to use, but they use to chit-chat when they aren't busy.
And at times I'll have another on to listen to the repeater input frequencies because some officers use them for low power simplex communications. It also allows me to hear when they're in my immediate area.
I don't miss much going on in my neighborhood. I also have scanners set up with banks dedicated to certain services like GMRS/FRS, Marine VHF, Business DOT frequencies/MURS, Utilities, Department of transportation, Fire, Ambulance, Local Media, Specific Businesses, Airport weather and tower, Ham repeaters on all bands, and other things we're not supposed to discuss.
I wish I could find some crystal scanners with the correct frequencies in them for monitoring the frequencies that I listen to all of the time, but everytime I look at one at a yard sale or flea market it's got frequencies for fire or ambulance, and I don't listen to that very much. The crystals are more expensive to order than the difference in price to buy a used programmable scanner, so that's what I've wound up doing.
It sure is a great way to know what's going in your neighborhood. |

My base will scan 10/11 meters, both [reset channels or just a spectrum, or the whole spectrum.
The RCI 2950 will also scan by selected intervals. |
