Same? No. Similar? Yes. That was the intention of RF Limited Magnum radios was to compete with the Melaka and other entry level base radios. The audio circuit and main board is similar to the Maverick A24 other than it has a single final. Benefit 1 over the Melaka is the dual clarifier, something the Melaka should always have had. |

I have been using this base for about one year. I might use it for target practice because that's all it's been worth. CEF 530 375 Northwest Indiana

We LOVE our S-3200B 1st Edition (pre-production) model with (no markings on main board) and have had -0- problems with it and we will NEVER get rid of it. And Troublemaker has also posted many times that he is also 100% satisfied with his S-3200B radio. The S-3200B Base Radio has No Bells and Whistles and is just a GREAT performing radio doing what it was designed to do and it works GREAT with any Amp. Just our personal experience with over 2000 hours of Trouble Free use. Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN & Shirley 1st Sargant CEF164

Does this radio have a frequency counter jack on the back of the radio? Also, are mods possible, such as opening the clarifier and expanding the frequencies? |

Bert, YES, it has a connection for the Galaxy FC-347 Frequency Counter located on the rear panel. It also has a Dual Clarifier (FINE & COARSE) And YES it can be converted. Read my REVIEW on it by Clicking on the BLUE Link below and it will give you More Complete Information and the Step by Step Conversion process and show you the Frequency Coverage after conversion. Thing that turned me off on the S3200 is that you NEED a freq counter to use expanded freq's and seems kind of cheaply built by just screwing a mobile radio in a case. |

Pretty much all of them screw a mobile in a case. Wish they'd screw a 257 in one |

Crackshot, If you have Never used one then you do not know what you are missing. It is a GREAT simple easy to use radio for the experienced operator or someone who is to the hobby. And you DO NOT NEED a freq counter to use the Expanded Frequencies. If you go by the Channel Chart that I posted in the Review you DO NOT Need a Freq Counter or Freq Display unless you just like to look at pretty red or blue numbers. We have used ours for almost 2 years now almost EVERY SUNDAY on the CEF Nets and we have NEVER had or needed a Freq Counter or Freq Display connected to it. The Frequency Chart that I posted in the Review is 100% DEAD ON after doing the conversion. And having a FINE and COARSE Clarifier like the S-3200B HAS is something that ALL BASE Radios NEED! Hope this helps, Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Oh I am not stating that it is a bad radio and seems like a nice unit. Fot the price, I might eventually get one to add to my collection, but still waiting for the new mini magnums to come out. Wife needs a easy, powerful mobile unit to use! |

I guess that I'm the only one who dislikes this radio!! I have sent it to the shop three times (it's not even a year old) and it still is a junker! I can't understand why the radio frequency changes 10 kc's when it is in LSB mode (channel 19 = 27.1950 instead of 27.1850) and to be on frequency I have to tune the radio to read off frequency (27.3748 = 27.3750). I wish that I had bought the extended warranty because I will probably be sending it back to magnum for repairs for as long as I own it. If you want a good radio from Magnum get ANY one of their mobiles and leave this base at the store!!! I own the 257 and the s-9 and LOVE them. I bought the 3200 believing that it would be as good and I am VERY diasppointed. CEF 530

Hey Crackshot, what's the scoop with the new mini magnums you speak of? I haven't heard about them. (This probably isn't the right spot to ask...} |
