Rottenspaz,

We haven't heard of any reports of poor receive on this radio. Either something is not operating properly on your radio or there is some sort of antenna problem.

You can return it to us and we can determine if there is a problem with the radio. You also might try posting your problem into the "Ask The Tech" portion of this forum.
Let me know what you would like to do.

Regards,

Forum Master

Bought another antenna, Barjan Product Code 300-150, I seem to get out better, also I now use it m pick up, In work truck I believe it might be speaker. I did have a tech look at it, and he check out the receive on it, He siad that all was fine. Try my new equipment out first, Antenna
, But I love the radio, I hope I'll be able to talk on some skip.

I doubt this will be the last radio you will buy simply because the radio habit will stick with you until you are too old and weak to push the mike button. As good as the Voyage is someday you will tire of it and even though you may keep it you will get the fever for something that catches your eye in a catalog or on the net. That my friend is what keeps the economy moving.73's

There are alot of other posts on this radio. On the left pane you'll see keyword search. Search for vr 9000 and it should bring up all the posts on that radio.

Was wondering how the freqency stability is on side band? The old 88's had a real drifting problem. Does however seem to be a good deal...

Thanks Sonoma...... The stability was the majopr factor with me!!!!! If your radio doesn't stay on freq....., it's worthless as far as I'm concerned. With the technology today... There's no excuse for drifting radios!! The ones that did in the past were experiments at our cost !!!! I Think I'm going to try one ... , but I won't open it up untill I know for sure. That way The warranty will stay good ,...... Right 307??? Love you guy's ......... Ice Pick

I am considering purchasing a VOYAGE VR 9000.
I tried e-mailing the only e-mail address I could find on the copper site and the e-mail address is invaild. So I guess I post my question here.

If I pay to get the 11 meter and tune up done how many watts out will this radio do on SSB?

Regards

Dave

jyd,

The VR9000 frequency range, after modification, is 25.615 MHz (I think!) all the way to 28.305 MHz (28.315 MHz if you use the 10 KHz switch). There are 6 bands (a-f) with 40 channels each.

Skynet,

Making any NEW Terminator models lately? (LOL-just kidding!)

Here is what Copper did on my VR9000 upon ordering the 11 meter conversion and tune up. Cut the "spider" of resistors on the solder side of the board thus "opening" up the radio to the frequencies above. The SSB peak output on my Dosey meter was about 25 watts and on AM dead-keyed about 8-9 watts with a modulation swing to about 15 watts.

If you purchased the VR9000 be sure to check out the Negative Peak Supression modification described here in the Forum. The article has very detailed and descriptive instructions and photographs. The mod is easy to do if you are decent with a soldering iron AND it really improves the VR9000's modulation quality, power output and the radio runs cooler, too!

I am curious. Really, in truly, how does the Voyage 9000 do on SSB? I saw the 'warm up' part above. I have a Euro 3900, p'chased from copper. I love it as an AM radio. It stinks on SSB even after a professional alignment(though a little better).

Ordered mine last night and expect delivery on Monday 11/11/02. I'm looking foward to doing the mods on it myself and will post my opinion thereafter. Everything I've heard about this radio has been good and the people I've heard who own them are LOUD!!! I've got an Astatic 576-M6 and a 25 watt soldering iron waiting!

Got my VR9000 Monday afternoon, cut the resistors off the PLL & plugged my 576-M6 into on the 5/8 wave ground plane. I'm a believer!!! Even without the mods this radio screams! All I really have to do is disable the talkback, but with headphones it works fine. I'm thinking of putting a pot on the talkback and making it variable...Now where to mount the pot without butchering the radio???
Not much room to work here!!!

Any more opinions as to these radios' ability on SSB? I seldom operate on AM and would like to make sure it is a good SSB performer. I currently use 148 GTL and as far as stability and clear modulation it's great. Would like just a wee bit more power. Can anyone compare those two radios? Thanks for reading. SB106.

I use a loaner VR9000 as my base and would compare it to my FT101B as far as SSB goes. I hope this helps. I have seen no drift after about 2 minutes of generat warm up. My radio shack can get as cold as 25 F.

I seemed to wonder why is it the vr9000 radio is always off freq when on SSB? Its like i always have to put the clarifier to 9'oclock position when i switch it on .I know a clarifier is to receive and transmitt in a comfortable listening postion when properly tuned but this is crazy.I have a rci 2950 and its just not like this.Is there a defect in this part of the radio or its just mine? Can someone help?should i send it back ? waiting for replies.

With the coarse knob at 12 o'clock [transmit only] and the fine at 12 o'clock you should be fine after warm up. Fine is receive only and takes a little practice to get things working together.
Not a problem with the radio, just getting used to operating two seperate controls. There is a mod that will put the fine for both tx and rx as you normally find in CB radios not 10 meter units.
Hope this helps.
