How does the larson cb antennas compare to the others? Is it in the top 50% of antennas in your opinion--anyone?

The Larson lowband antennas that cover the 27 MHz. range are similar to the tried and true Antenna Specialist base load design. They work well. They do not work as well as the Wilson 1000 or K40 antennas.
Maxrad and others who make commercial quality antennas also make antennas that cover the 27 Mhz. band. Keep in mind, these will not perform as well as the longer antennas available from Wilson and K40, but they are MUCH stronger and will last longer. For 4X4 off road use, the commercial quality antennas would be longer lasting than a Wilson or K40. Then again, K40 will replace any antenna that breaks for life, so you really can't go wrong there either.
My first choice for base load mobile antennas, all things considered, is K40. When price is no object, Maxrad. |

I really want to get a Wilson 1000 but I have a Larson nmo 150. I used to have a 27 mhz nmo Larson that I could switch back and forth on my other car. I never have put a radio or antenna on the car I have now. I'm leaning toward a nmo trunklip mount I saw on some site on the web. This way I can avoid drilling holes and go back to swapping antennas just by screwing one out and the other in, simple. Now, if Wilson had a nmo trunklip mount I'd go that route because I could still use my 2 meter antenna on the mount. So far no luck on this. Do you know of a mount like this for the Wilson 1000?

I use NMO mounts on all my vehicles. I bought a Maxrad lowband whip for listening to CB and it works perfectly. My work truck has an NMO right in the middle of the roof. I use it for whatever band I may need to use at the time.
You may also like to know that the Antenna Specialist 'Big Momma' and Magnum type antennas will also screw on to an NMO. They work very well. |
