My aunt is getting out of the CB hobby. She states that "It's not what it used to be. She gave me this Navajo Base. I love the "On the Air" and "Modulation" lights on the front panel. Would some one give me your thoughts about this radio.
Performance, Quality, Dependability, etc. Thanks in advance.

Send it to me and I will tell you how bad it is, the Navajo was a good seller back then, and a good radio, especially fun to watch the Modulation light, it is big isn"t it.?

Karatebutcher, would this radio be on par with the President Washington or Cobra 2000 as far as performance, and dependability, or would you say this would be a close 2nd??.

Performance? Good. Compared to a Washington or 2000, no. Dependable? Yes! It can acutally sound fairly good with the right work and mic. It can also get extra channels with a 3-position switch (who needs a "+", normal, "-" delta tune anyway? :) )

I keep mine as a standby (for me) or a loaner for friends who become radioless. Gotta keep people on the airwaves, otherwise they (we) get CB-withdrawls.

My opinion

I believe it would be a second choice, not close second but a real good sounding and and they get out good, there were a lot of them in the 70"s in the Southern states

Thanks all for the imput. I've talked to a few techs in the neighborhood and they want to go inside of it to look it over. Another tech, or "Wanna Be" tech wants to go inside to cut the modulation limiter. He claims that if I let him do it, that I will have some "Nasty, Loud, and Bodacious audio. I chose not to let anyone stick their fingers in my navajo. I hope you guys agree with me. I going to try and find a good 5 pin-din power mike that is compatible for this radio. This radio has never been opened up, and I'm not going to let someone else screw it up.

Find a used Turner Super Sidekick power desk mic and have it wired up...best mic I ever heard on a 431.

I have a Mironta (Realistic) battery tester.
the ranges are 1.5, 6, 9, 15, and 22.5 volts.
The Problem is that I have an old R/S mirophone with a 7 volt cylindrical battery. How do I test the charge on this battery??? This mike will be used on my newly acquired navajo trc-431 base.

Wolverene,

Get a small inexpensive Volt / Ohm Meter and that will solve all your problems.

I think even Wal-Mart carries them and then you will have something to check your batteries as well as your radio's.

Being in radios, they make checking coax, jumpers, voltage, wiring mics, checking antennas, meter's and a lot more very easy to problem shoot

Just my thought's
