A trunking tracker is a radio that has a computer built in that can track the control channel on a trunking system and allow you to lissen to a trunked system. A trunking system is a bank of repeaters controled by a computer and the idea is by time shairing you can get a lot more radios on your radio system. The system computer places the next radio on the next open repeater then talks to all the radios that belong to the same group .... it changes their frequencys to match the one it asigned to the first radio that keyed up. The scanner hears a control channel and uses its microprosser to adjust its receive frequencys to stay in step with the system so you dont hear only part of the conversation. Here in my county we have a 27 repeater main system and 2000 users
and you rarely get a bussy tone.

And here all this time I thought it was to keep the bad guys from listening in to the Police Frequencies.... My old radio Shack scanner is fine here so far. The local 'Gendarms' have not had the $$$$ to upgrade. California's in a crisis ya know... Arnold's going to fix us right up... :)
