I have been reading alot of articles on Antenna. I have heard all of the raves about Wilson 5000. From what I have read even though this is a good Antenna, it is not the most effcient Antenna. This is as far as power loading and reception. The Wilson 5000 is basicly made for power handling. A long time ago, I remember I traded in the whip antenna for an antenna called a Skip Shooter.(Similar to a Firestik) It was a good antenna, just didnt hold up to power very well. Now Wilson comes out with the FGT series antenna. 2 words...IT ROCKS. I got the 3' model, partly because I have it mounted on top of my van, and I got tired of taking out lights with my 5000.

The first thing I noticed was how good of a match I was able to get through an RG58, on a Radio Shack mag mount. I got it to where it would barely move the needle on the SWR. After hooking up the radio(Galaxy88HL), and turning it on, I instantly noticed a difference in reception. I got a good clean sound, not alot of noise.

I did a test on SSB(27.555). I got the normal traffic(Brazil, and Southern California) but I was also able to hear stations in europe also. Static was drasticly reduced. Then I did a distance check with a friend on AM. Was able to talk twice the distance with out power compared to using the 5000(about 10 miles from a Cobra hand held on 26.795). I am not just barely talking, I am talking a good clean clear signal. I was impressed enough to write this review. I am totally in WOW here!!!! I was even able to hammer it with my amp in modulator mode with out static. I cant wait to get some thicker coax for the mount!!

This antenna claims to be a 5/8 wave antenna. The wiring is coiled with 18 gauge silver plated wire, and the package rates the power up to 750 watts. I put 145RMS watts and 275PEP.

Dont get me wrong, this Antenna will not work miracles, nor is it for the power hungry. But if you are a mudduck, and want an antenna that will give you better gain and range, you must check out this antenna. It works.

I'll try one out in the future and let you know if it impresses me.Of course I realize it will perform much better on your van than it will on my pickup.73's

2 cents time again. i have a 2' a 3' and a 4' FGT and a 3' Diesel fiber glass. the 3'FGT is permanently mounted on the roof of my 4x4 with a 3" spring and deals with limbs and stuff good. i also have a Workman B 50 mirror mounted on another 4x4 but due to the way it's made it doesn't need a spring. both tested on the same day on the roof mount to the same base 12 miles away the B 50 was said to be the winner. But then again cold weather and tree limbs will kill the plastic cylinder.
