The newest AM mobile radio from RCI is out and I have had a chance to try one out. It is made in China, which is no suprise. The overall quality, is in my opinion, excellent! The backlit, black face front panel is beautiful. I have a close friend who has one in his semi. He does a lot of driving in the very early morning hours and loves the way he can see everything clearly, without glare. I did a peak and tune on it, which was very simple to accomplish. The quality of the board and components, is better than the new Cobra 29, as far as workmanship is concerned and it looks like a classic design. Modulation was easily adjusted for 100%, and adjusting the two output coils, I was able to get a swing of about 16 watts peak, with a 5 watt dead key, using two different meters. Radio checks were always loud and clean sounding. The stock mic is heavy and has a metal grill and plate/button on the back. It is a "noise cancelling" design and overall appears to be rugged enough to last under constant use.Ranger is promoting this new radio as their answer to the Cobra 29NW, at a lower cost. If anyone else has had any experience with this new radio, it would be interesting to get some additional feedback, as I am no expert by any means. I understand that this unit is made in the same plant as the new Galaxy radios but differs in some features and main board design.
