I noticed my swr was a little higher yesterday when it was raining. Today, I pulled the magnetic mount up and moisture was collected/trapped under the magnet. I wiped it dry and presto, the swr returned to 1:1. Ever had this experience. What can I do to keep water out from under the magnet?

go to a body mount.

magnet mounts though conveinent are not the way to go for a good mobile system.

I spread a very thin layer of di-electric grease around the outside edge of the magnet, That and a very thin piece of plastic food wrap between magnet and surface.

I totally agree with the optimum being a solid mount.
To some the only option available is a magnet mount.

I use a wilson 1000 mag mount, mounted as described and have had no problem as of yet.

So, Ironmask, you don't get moisture under your magnet mount? My mount is on the trunk and there is a slight decline; so water run down and around the mount. It seems there's always some issue with CBs. Enjoying my antenna though.

I slid the antenna up closer to the crack of the hood near the back glass with a slight overhang. It seems to keep it dry this way. Antenna is working fine and unbelievably broad banded with low swr.

If you're going to be leaving the mag antenna in place, why not just run a small bead of clear silicone sealer around the base? It wouldn't be a permanent mount, and can be cleaned off fairly easily with a little elbow grease. I can't say about condensation that may accumulate under the antenna, but this would stop the rainwater from getting under the mount. (Just a thought...) >:p
