Look around. about the same price as other CB only SSB's. Its a Galaxy! For the same price look at the Magnum 257. Lots of good things said. these are the two that i am pondering. |

This is a nice radio, but feature for feature -it does not even compare to the Magnum 257. Send me an EMail address, please -I have something for you. john-harbaugh@earthlink.net "CrackerJack" CEF-358 |

If you're into big S-meters, it's fine. Never heard anything bad about the 979 radio. Wolverine. |

I have a 959 that I'm very unhappy with. If there is another radio in the nieghborhood even at stock power I can hear it on almost every channel with the 959. Somebody know what I can do to stop it. Please no postings telling me to sledge hammer it or throw it from a cliff. |

personaly I like the 959`s if tuned up correctly and a KL-203 behind it the radio works well as a barefoot radio it could be a lot better the radio lacks the audio power that the galaxy 10 meters have,I have been told that if you do the daul final mod you can get 25 watts SSB and An 8 to 10 watt carrier on AM With loud modulation. The stock 959 you can only get about 4 watts carrier before it starts back swinging. With an amp it sounds great at 3 watts swinging to about 12 watts.Sideband barefoot was pretty good on the one i had but i got mine in 2002 maybe they are not the same as the new ones. |

Interesting. My 959 was keying 6 and swinging to 25 when I tuned it and SSB was aabout 25 watts. I since have had the finals strapped...and it will key as high as 15...but at 7 watts, it swings to 30+ on a PEP meter (HP5000) and about 27 on SSB. It could use the voltage regulator upgrade, because at the level of output, it dims the radio's lights when I transmit...but the audio is loud and clear. hibuck... |
