A friend of mine has a KL-300p. While talking on it driving down the road, his dashboard gage lights came on and the transmission was only useful in one gear. He went to a mechanic and the mechanic put a amp measure on the battery and alternator. Turns out the amp was drawing over 100 amps from the system. The problem? He was driving the little amp too hard. What I don't understand is why the amp didn't just smoke or blow a fuse? Anyway, what are those amp really capable of putting out? BTW, turning the motor off then starting it again reset everything including the electronic switch that shifts the transmission. My friend was relieved.

Yeah, I thought over 100 amps was too exaggerated. But I saw the lights on the dashboard myself act crazy when the thing was keyed up.

Do these amps have built in fuses. Two fuses were added. One on the hot and one on the ground. Also the ground wire was attached to a bolt the seat is bolted to. Could any of these factors affect the amp draw?

Thanks for all the help.

Click on the link below and it will show you what fuses are in it and how many.

There would be NO Reason to add more Fuses.

When hooking any AMP up in a Car/Truck it should be hooked DIRECT to the Battery BOTH POSITIVE / RED and NEGATIVE / BLACK Wires.

A lot of the Problem's people have with AMP's is improper installation.

So should I tell him to take the extra fuses out of the hot wire and ground wire? I read there are two 12 A fuses that already come with the amp. Are those fuses built inside the amp? I'll take a closer look when I see him.

I have my KL-500 run via 6 guage wire to the battery terminals, if I turn the power up on my Delta force at all the seat belt light flickers when I talk on power level 6 on SSB. If the radio is on low it does not happen.
Don't know if that helps you or not Mike.

Sounds like too much draw on the electrical system. You'd thing the system would be stronger than that?
