This sounds like one heck of a radio. Has anyone ever ran one? Is it as awesome as it sounds? |

Much has been written about the Delta force. I own one. I have three radios (actually 4 but one is an old handheld that I don't count), all considered great in their own way, a Uniden Grant XL, a Galaxy 93T and my Delta. I love all three radios and would not trade them in for the world. But if you made me choose one, and you would have to make me, but if you did, I would pick the Delta. I am always being asked what type of radio am I talking on. It is not just loud and clear on AM but "smooth" is the best way I can describe it. Really unique. SSB is also awesome, turn it on, no drifting great sound, it is compared to the Lincoln by some but since I don't have a Lincoln I cannot comment. (though I will have one someday...) It is loud by itself but also drives an amp nicely such as my KLV-500. Incredible echo if you are into that, incredible talkback on all modes and I mean loud here, it will drive you right out of the car. Great stock mic which is a power mic itself so no reason to change it out. Tons of channels, variable power, a scan feature which is cool to use on the quiet nights, preset stations which are great while you are driving. It is also a tough durable radio that will take a pounding. Mine deak keys .75 Watts and swings to 20 on low and on high 12W to 30. All this at an amazing price. Negatives: I have read some feeling it has cheap loose nobs, mine is not like that, all feel secure and well made. Noisy sensitive receive, yes this is true, my Delta picks up everything and I mean everything, things I have never heard before but I don't consider this a negative, I like picking up everything. I was driving home tonight in a snowstorm, almost a white out, highway is a mess, I am monitoring Channel 19 for my life as all of the State plow trucks and some of the State Police monitor and talk on it along with all the other drivers. The channel was dead quiet, quieter than I could ever remember hearing it in my recent memory, kinda spooky, I thought the Delta wasn't working for a minute. Then I heard some talking, the meter wasn't moving but I could hear people talking, a base station, other drivers, clear as could be but not even moving the needle, again I thought something was wrong with my radio. It took me awhile to realise that my Delta was pulling in signals from across the entire state. This was not skip here this was actual local contacts from I can't even imagine the distances in a mountainous region no less. Faint tiny signals, so faint as to not even be able to move my meter, but I could hear them clear as could be. It made me realise that if the conditions are right I bet I can hear a mosquito fart on the space shuttle with this radio. Needless to say I would recommend this radio to you... |

Thanks Pointman. I'm hearing all kinds of good things about this radio. The only negative thing I've heard is that they can be difficult to tune, and the knobs feel like they are about to fall off. I think a Delta Force is going to be my next mobile. |

I have a Delta Force that many forum members have heard me on during the Nets. An impressive radio as it sounds on the airwaves, loud but clear on both AM and SSB. Mine does have the sloppy knob syndrom but it's quite liveable. My Lincoln has a smoother receive (easier on the ears) but as Pointman said, lots of radio for the dollar. If you choose one, do NOT let anyone remove the limiter. Had a friend do that on his new one and the only way he could sound clear was to back the mic gain to almost nothing. He was upset at what he had done, and eventually sold it to buy an Omega Force (which the limiter will remain intact). Not trying to start the "to cut? or not to cut?" debate, but these radios sound so much better with the limiter left intact. Just a heads up for you. Good Hunting Alsworld |

Hmmmmmmmmm Never seen any reason to ever Clip any Radio New or Old. Never Clipped One & Never Will! Just my nickel's worth. NOTE! With the Snow rolling in I can afford a Nickel now instead of 2 cents worth. hehehe |

Hawk what do you mean? With mine where I leave it in terms of channels is where it is when I turn it back on and she is ready to talk.

I cannot say that the 93 is the best. I don't know how to say this to be clear but they are all great radios in their own way. For a stock radio I can never get over how great my wife sounds in her minivan on my old Grant with a cheap antenna and the stock mic. The 93 is in a different class in terms of features and stand alone power (like the 95 and some others) and man can that radio talk. I also find that it is underated on SSB but yes it does drift until warm up but a simple adjustment and you are right on frequency while it does. I love talking skip on it without an external amp, very cool. The Delta is also full of features is loud and clear but has a smoother sound on AM than the 93, not better or worse, just smoother. I like that the Delta is easier to match with other amps also. The dead key info I gave above was wrong on Hi dead key is 9-10 Watts swing to 30. I also see what others are saying about the knobs not being as tight as my other radios also but perhaps mine as not as bad as their's I don't know. I love all three radios and will never part with any of them. Of course I still want more lol...;) |

I have a Delta that I would NOT SELL OR TRADE. Mine dosen't have the sloppy knob either. I was over 10 miles away from an other driver in a city who also has a Delta. We talked abck and forth, meter barely moving on recieve! 2 other drivers one had a Galaxy, and the other a souped up Colbra 148, neither could hear me, but I could hear them. They had to have the other Magnum driver 10-5 for them. When I got mine set up, I had it set up to power up in the mod mode, which I believe is the COM 3 choice. The COM 2 choice powers up in 10 meter, then you have to do the switch at the Function switches such as Hawk1. |
