I'm interested in both these radios. I would like some opinions on which is a better sideband radio.Since the radio will be used mostly for sideband, I was wondering does one have a better receive than the other one. does the meleka have the same great modulation of the washington? I know the meleka has more channel capability than the washington. I do know that the washington has a very good receive section in the radio. Is the meleka in the same ball park as the washington, as far as adjacent channel rejection? Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks folks, This is the BEST forum for radios I have found!!! |

That is incorrect. The Melaka will do better on both AM and SSB. That's like comparing a Uniden Grant to the Superstar 3900...there's no comparison. |

The Grant uses the traditional 8719 chip (just like the 148) and it's channeling is limited. The Melaka uses the ept 3600 board same as Galaxy 88 etc with complete 5 bands of 40 chs and FM and unlimited mods and upgrades. No offense intended, it's just pretty plain to me that the Melaka is much more radio. Am I missing something??? |

well a washington is still 1 of the longest lasting around and they will take alot of abuse. and just because the melaka has the same board does not mean it has the same parts quality wise |

The Grant is actually a better made chassis to the Washington. I'm aware we are speaking of the Washington, the Grant injection above was a typo. Takes alot of abuse? What abuse? I'm, posting a reply in this category to help those who are not experienced in these radios. I am, and stating my opinion. The Melaka would be smarter money spent opposed to the Washington. The Melaka recieves better, puts out more power, has more mod capabilities. The ept 3600-14 board is the same whether it's in a Melaka, Galaxy Saturn, Galaxy 33, Galaxy 99, Connex 3300, General Lee, etc. Same board, just different features for each radio. |
