For those of us who, in the future would like to experiment with the Predator 10k, or antennas like that, is it possible for Copper Electronics to make the 3-pad mag-mounts with upgraded coax already installed, that will take 1000 watts peak? With my 3-pad mag, and because of the coax that came with it, I'm limited to 500 watts, which in turn would limit the 10k's potential. Thanks.

you can do it your self.
ive modded my wilson 5000, witch i dont think rg58 will carry 5000 watts AM like they dream about.
but you can use lmr 240 or lmr 300 or mini 8 coax witch is what i used on my wilson.
i used 1/2 electrical wavelength of the mini 8 and its seen about 1100 watts a couple times for short winded conversations.
id really rather use the lmr 300 but i had some mini in the garage so i use that.i dont trust it for long winded talks at 700+ watts key down because she will melt down......if your long on the key.

I'll never understand why anyone would want to run massive amounts of RF power through a magnetically mounted antenna.
Very poor grounding there. The only grounding the antenna see is righ back down to the linear or radio.

Reason being is, I do not want to drill a hole in the roof of my car, 2nd- I live in an apartment complex, where you must take out the radio/amp and antenna every night, and if you don't, just consider it as a donation to the locals. 3rd- even though, I lust and love to experiment with various antennas (Which keeps me broke), I'm talking about running peak, not rms watts through the mag. With the skip cycle getting progressively worse, I'm going to need all the help that I can get. But..... thanks for asking anyway KcOgxz.

No insult intended. As usual, I spoke without thinking.
I realize that mags do have their uses. Just keep an eye on the paint. Mags and high RF power have the tendency of sometimes not mixing well and can do a number on your paint-job under the magnet.

Be careful running that much power in a mobile, that density of RF so close to your head is a recipe for future cataracts. Mike |
