No one will (EVER) see the difference between a Texas Star-650 and a Palomar-775. And fact or not, don't let that big 775 number fool you.

The biggest reason being is the fact that you have to more than double your output RF power just to come up a 1/2 S-Unit on the receiving end. In otherwords, if you're giving someone a S-9 with 500 watts, you would have to more than double that power just to come up a 1/2 S-Unit on their receivers' S-Meter.

Read the specs closely on both of these RF amplifiers. The specs on the Texas Star you can take to the bank. Specs on the Palomar is usually (but not always) wishful thinking on their part.

Texas Star is one of very few companys that will give you honest specifications. And they are also a very rugged (tough) amplifier. Treat them well and they'll live a very long time. On a personal note, I will take "ANY" Texas Star "ANY" day over a Palomar/anything.

You asked for opinions--that was mine. Hang in there a little while because I'm sure you will be getting other opinions on the subject.

my new in the box palomar 225 did like 150 and bleeds like crazy

I just put in a TS667v a few weeks ago and love it. You wont see the 600 watts like everyone claims but you will get a very good 300-400 watts and it will TALK. Loud and clear reports local and have talked back to any skip I can hear so far. I am sold on the 667.

I agree Dwd, mine would just top 500 watts on a bird 43P. It would actually sound best though when you used the variable and backed it down just alittle. At about 450 watts it sounded louder and the audio was better. This was according to several base stations 25-35 miles away. My only complaint was it ran hot so get a fan for yours.

Have always had EXCELLENT Results & Performance with the 667 in our Big Trucks. We always got between 475-500 and around600+ watts out depending on Input power & which radio we had hooked up running 4 and and 18-20 watts.

Never used the 775 before.

With the Texas Star, you have an 80 watt transistor driving the 4-2879's. With the Pal, you have 2-70 w transistors driving the 4-2879's....hmmmm. They're either detuning the drive @ palomar to keep from trashing the finals defeating the whole purpose, or it's just a marketing ploy because the casual buyer sees 6 transistors vs. 5. If $ is the issue, the Pal is $75 or so less, but I'd spend the bucks and go for the TEXAS STAR!
