hey guys, I'm kinda new to the cb world. I just purchased a galaxy 350 HD. I have a cobrad 25 nw st radio and a wilsom 1000 antenna mounted to the roof of my tahoe. Keep in my I don't know much about cb's. It says the amp will do 350 watts. Does anybody have an idea how much that will increase my range. Is it a good amp. SOMEBODY HELP

Go to the left side of your screen and find Utilities. Left click on SEARCH. Enter "galaxy 350" and it will pull up some previous discussion threads on that amp. Anything over 100 Watts will talk all over the world if conditions are right. I have one also, but never had it much beyond 175 Watts because it pulls too many amps for my set-up.

Bradford, I think you might be talking about one of those blue face Galaxy 350HD's. If so it has two 2879 pills in it. Under ideal conditions you might get 300 er so watts on SSB, with a Cobra 25 driving it you will be in the range of 220-270 honest watts on AM.
There are too many other factors that effect range to give you a solid mile number for your range. That said, on a quiet channel at night with no skip you should be able to talk to a mobile running the same power for 20-30 miles. And to a base with say a beam antenna maybe 40-50 miles. There are so many factors you will just have to give it a shot and see. Take care.

Bradford: Butcher is right on the money. The 2879 is a 100Watt PEP minimum output transistor with 8 Watts into it. It (one transistor) is rated at 250Watts absolute maximum output. 300Watts (60%) is about right for two 2879's.
