Without a dummy load its difficult to be accurate. I use my MP-1 portable antenna in close quarters. Under these conditions my magnum 257, like every one elses, I suppose, is capable of swinging to about 35 watts and dead key to about the same. Of course I don't leave the DK that high - with the internal AM carrier adjustment all the way counter-clockwise for minimum power, this enables the DK to be adjusted from 0 to 8 watts with the external RF power knob.

As I've mentioned in prior posts, I'd like to run a modest amp. While I can turn down the power to a watt or two with the external knob, you and I just know that the adjustment is not always going to sit in the sweet spot and by some misfortune, will likely end up turned to the right to dive an amp with an 8 watt carrier. I can smell it now.

Does any one have any insights on how I can best approach this situation?
