Buy a powersupply. The KL40 will only need a 7-10 amp PS.

The kl 40 would run on 5a I would think, 7a for a little cushion. If you're going small, I like the kl60 much better.
Be very careful with the input carrier (dead key). You don't want the kl40 to have more than a 12w carrier coming out of it, which usually equates to about a half watt input.

I'd go with the kl60, and get your radio carrier cut back to 1 watt.

There is a variable pot in the right rear of the radio. I think it's vr5, but someone can verify. IT WILL turn down below 2w.

I have ran my KL40 with a 1.75 watt dead key from the radio, and in return got a 15 watt dead key from the amp swings to 35. It ran a bit warm that way so I turned the radio down to .50 watts dead key, and now the amp keys at 4 watts swings to 35. It stays cool now too, no matter how long winded I get. Great little helper.

TheMerc,

That's the best way to run those amps, low and cool. Just enough power to make 'em click.

715: Your radio will NOT DO 32 watts without some major work done to it. And we are talking AM power here. Your washington probably throws out 5-8 watts on AM if you're lucky.

Whatever the AM wattage be, 8 or 12. It's not going to be 32.

715: Do more HW. Let me point you in the right direction. Like I said, your washington will not do 32 watts on AM. Probably won't even do that on SSB! What you want to do is turn the wattage output on the radio DOWN. And then run the amp. Get a power supply for the amp. The KL40 is a nice little amp and it will serve you well. Spend the 30 dollars or so and get a small 6-10 amp power supply. You can use it for other things also. Like powering a mobile radio. So the power supply is a good investment. It seems money is a concern to you. The handheld D-104 will be fine. Just make sure you don't turn it up too high. Also, don't run the amp unless you need to. Get a wattage control installed on the radio. That way you can turn up the wattage to full power (probably around 10 watts) and turn it down for the amp. You can run the KL40 with 2 watts if not less.

Petreques,

I believe it is "RM3"

As for the Pin Out or a Replacement for the RM3, maybe Tech307 can help on this one.
