Capt hook, The RM-KLV 250 is a Nice little Amp and performs very well if you drive it with 2 to 2 1/2 Watts of Dead Key / Input power. You will need to back your radio down and it should last a long time. Hope this helps. Lon Tech808 |

On the KLV 250 (solid state right?), if the amp is off, can the power meter be used to show the driving power befire you turn it on? |

The meter still works, but I wouldn't count on it to be super accurate--I would use an external wattmeter for that purpose. |

jj, Just my own personal experience & feelings but, I NEVER trust any meter on any Radio or Amp. The way I have seen UPS and FED EX drop packages of Parts, Radios, Amps, and Antennas here over the last 30+ years anything can get jarred loose or broken. I always use External SWR/Watt Meters and check them weekly into a dummy load and then I check them against each other. I just feel safer and have never had a problem so far. Lon Tech808

I posted for days, for an answer to KLV base amps, under "Ask the tech/Amplifiers.The thread is titled "One tube amplifier. Either I posted in the wrong section, or you guys/techs are very busy. Does the same answers above apply to the KLV-200 base amp? That 1 knob on the front of both amps, is that a plate, tune, or variable? In other words, how do you use that knob. Thanks. Wolverine. |

Wolverine, The KLV 200 Has a Single TUNE Knob. The KLV 250 has a Single Adjustable Pre-Amp Knob/Control. As for the operation TUNE /Procedure I can't help there as I have not owned or used one. You will have to refer to the Owners Manual which will explain the correct procedure for you to use. I also answered your other question in Ask the Tech (Amplifiers} area. Sorry for the delay. I have a 350m same tuning system. You tune the meter for a peak in the meter, I used dead key on LOW power. Depending on your antenna and SWR, you may need to check it with channel changes, experience will teach you quickly. |

Darryl, I have run the KLV200 (tube amp) for well over a year now and have had no problems. You will need to tune the amp if you make any drastic freq. changes, no big deal. I run SSB 95% of the time and I usually run the amp on low side and it swings nicely and sounds great. I would buy one of these again in a heart beat and I have owned quite a few amps since 1975. 73's Barry CEF335 |

Thanks Waverider. I know you have to re-tune the amp every time you change channels. I run strictly on AM 100% of the time, and I prefer the KLV 200 over the 250 only because it is a tube, and hopefully will not create as much harmonics and TVI for my neighbors. Wolverine. |

Comparing the meter on the KLV-250 to a real external meter I find the amp meter very generous. The one I have shows it putting out more watts and swing than the external meter. It's really a nice little amp. Just be careful with what you put into. I wouldn't put more than 4 watts am and 10 watts SSB. I'd be scared it go kupoot! I now own my second one. mikefromms |
