I've heard people say the stock Mic. is fine, but I have a Silver Eagle and a Astatic 1104-C, and just curios what would be a good choice. One of these including the stock Mic. or something else?

Bob p,

The Silver Eagle as well as the 1104C would all work well with this radio as well as the Stock Mic you have.

The SuperStar DM-452 also works very well with this radio. Not a lot of money and works GREAT!

I use the DM-452 on my 2970DX as well as my 2995DX and I just barely open the echo to the first dot on the mic.

Check out the link below:

Hope this helps.

The question really is which mic works best with your voice? Microphones have different responces and some sound better than others with individual voices. The 2970 has a low impedance microphone input, which means it'll work with most mics.

The best way to tell is to wire it up and give it a try! Switch between the stock mic and another mic while chatting with someone you trust to give you a good report. Some people prefer the sound of a particular mic - especially D104's. They're so common people are accustomed to the voice responce they have.

You could also listen on another radio with headphones while talking on an open channel. I actually tape myself from another radio because I can listen more carefully while not speaking.

Good luck!

I've heard the Turner +3 and +3B sound great on SSB, but have only heard one recently and it did not sound that great. I like the way the Turners have their push to talk or press to talk bar set, and the lock. Of course the 1104-C has a very similar set up. but I just ordered the radio and actually someone told me the Astatic mic's might cause problems on the RCI radios for some reasone. Of course they were trying to sell me a D-104 Special. Thanks for the response and I'm glad to hear the mic's I have will work.
