Looking at the 300P, I don't see a way to disengage the "preamp". The only failure UI have ever had from a kl amp, is the preamp and when it fails, if it can't be disengaged, there is no recieve.

Does anyone know if can be disengaged?

you can disengage the preamp by cutting the center leg of the tr3 transistor, after I cut mine I soldered wires to the cut parts, then ran the wires to the outside of the amp and soldered them to a toggle switch so I could still use the preamp.
