I know what the diffrence is but whats the pros and coms of both. I like to be loud a clear and not sound like . I only want to run about 100 to 200 watts. I'm looking at the palomar,cobra,galaxy mobile and a sandman base modulator. which one is better!!!!???

There is no difference, a Modulator is just a fancy name for a small amp. Of those that you listed if the Cobra is the XL 250 blue face I would go with that. They also came in the 350 and 450 XL versions. Nice clean well built class AB amps.

There are amplifiers that use high level RF clipping and they increase the average modulation level significantly. They really are modulators. I'm not aware of any currently made RF devices that just accomplish the clipping, but there are a few amateur amplifiers that do both. None of the CB amps made today are modulators.

Thanks guys, Now butcher you said go with the corba i feel the same way. But the palomar skipper said that they're the same are they all made by the same people or is there a better of the two If you know hat I mean. Thanks for all the info Toledo,ohio

Nickel,the palomar skipper is a tube type of roughly 300 watts.the cobra xl series are solid state 2-pill boxes.palomar electronics has been out of business for many years now and most new palomars you see nowdays are clones with the palomar name on them.stand alone companies still making their own include names like texas star,rm,dave-made and i'm sure others.as far as the clones i'm sure at least the boards are coming off the same assy line.
as another thought,why dont you become a regestered member so we can have another from ohio?
