I'm looking to add a little punch to my Cobra 25 or Uniden 78 XL.
What can I expect from a KLV 203? How many watts should I drive it with?

Drive it with 1 to 1 1/2 watts with lots of swing and it will do great. If you need the modification to lower the deadkey on the Cobra 25 let me know.

Kl203 will do you good, or if you want the pre-amp you can get the KL200P.

Out of these radios if you deadkey 1 watt and swing to 8-10 watts you'll see a 10 watt deadkey out of the amp with swing from 70-100 watts after you do the mod I'm talking about.

Do not drive these amps with higher than 2 watts...not good.

If that KL-203 is similar to the KL-200P it will walk the dog and cat with a very low key, say, 1 watt. Good results are seen running a low watt into and running it on high on am. For SSB be sure you don't overdrive it and be careful running it on high on SSB.

rci 2950 all the way down 2.5 watts swinging 25 on am into 203 gives according to my hp5000 meter 40 watt key swings 150-180 on modulation also had to back the mic gain down to 3/4 the amp had a nasty squeal with occiliation which caused it to remain keyed after i unkeyed. with the mic gain at 3/4 all is well. this little sucka walks! on sideband im doin about 6 watts swinging 8 into amp and have to turn mic gain WAAAYYYY down with amp on....but love this little chicklet box! i think it beats a 225 hands down. modulation is AWSOME!
