I bought a POWER DELUXE 35A BASE STATION POWER SUPPLY for $60.00, And it works Great! Not shure how many watts it puts out, but I do know it does more than 100w. I have searched and searched for information on this box, and can't find anything... Anyone know anything on this Base Station Amplifier?

Yes It does... Thank you very much... I bought it from an old boy from Holton, Kansas about 40 Miles north of Topeka, Kansas... I bought it for only $60.00 He had no Idea what it was, what it was for, or how much it was worth... So I guess I got a good deal on it...

And thank you ca346, and Tech808

Don't mean to sound stupid... I've been in Radio's pretty long off and on... But never was really into Amplifiers... what does this mean?

Output Power: 300RMS?

And can it do more than 500watts if radio is Peaked and Tuned?

And Can the amplifier be modified for more watts?

Gravedigger, did you hug him when you handed him the $60.00, that amp./power supply sells around $400.00. Am I correct on the price 808? That amp. is not a high drive, do not drive over 4 watts dead key on AM into it.

The Boomer 500 puts out right at 450 watts on high, as I said in my last post, DO NOT DRIVE OVER 4 WATTS ON AM INTO IT, ANYMORE THAN THAT WIL BURN IT UP QUICKLY. That is plenty of power and is not designed to put out more than what it can do from the factory. I know of 4 of them that have been burned up from running to much power out of the radio into the amp., one of the 4 has been burned up twice at $150.00 each time to get it rebuilt, he is an old man 84 years old and thinks he knows all there is to know about running amps, the last time his went up in smoke he was running 15 watts AM dead key into it.

Ok, but what does Output Power: 300RMS? Mean?

Not familure with amplifiers... I learn by reading articals, or explanations, and or specifications on equipment... Never really operated many amplifiers, untill I got this one. I'm still afraid of using it, Can't you get introuble for using those Amps, on Regular 11 meter radios, without A Ham Licence?
I don't want to do anything to get myself in trouble...

Gravedigger162,

Question #1,

RMS = Root mean square (rms) is, literally, the square root of the mean of the square of a value. It is a process for calculating an average value for a fluctuating value (such as ac voltage or current.) The term rms power is referred to as the average power.

A power amplifier rated as having "300 watts rms power" really puts out 300 watts of continuous sine wave power.

Question #2,

It is 100% Illegal to use an Amplifier on the 11 Meter Band ANYTIME by ANYONE including a Licensed Ham.

Hope this helps.

Lon

Thanks Lon, Always wanted to know what RMS stood for and I still don't understand it after you explained it.
