A friend of mine brought his klv-350 over because it blew the fuse. Put a new one in, and it worked fine for about an hour, then blew it again. Now it blows the fuse as soon as it's keyed up. Any ideas why? I've checked for the obvious, no burnt components, tubes test good, etc, however I haven't begun pulling and testing anything else... I guess maybe a problem in the HV portion of the amp?

Thanks

My klv 350 base amp does the same thing....I wish I knew what the problem is....I'd liked to get this "amp" up and transmitting again...I had always had good reports with this klv350 amp AM & SSB....I've tried asking Copper techs...but no luck....Anyone else have problems w/the KLV 350 base amp w/blown fuses and had it fixed..what's the deal on this amp?

Bullet215,

With the 1st post being over 3 years old I have not heard of this problem before.

I checked back on the posts you have made and could not find anything on you mentioning this before.

Have you checked both tubes?

What is your Dead Key and Swing and what kind of radio are you using and what kind of Mic are you using?

Your Dead key may be too high, or swinging too high if you are using a modulated Mic.

Or you may have a bad tube.

Check with the cover off to make sure Both Tubes are lighting.

Does it blow the fuse when you key up or when transmitting?

I have ran 2-1/2 to 3 watts into them and never had a problem before.

The more information we have the more we can try and help.

Lon Tech 808,
Yeah sorry, I had posted my klv 350 amp problem in the "ask the tech" amp section you are right not in this amp product "review" section. Anyway at first I was under the impression it was the power transformer but, now you mention it could be a bad tube(s)it has me wondering. I used to run it on a SSB mostly with about 8-12 watts modulation in on SSB, and 2 watts in on a.m. I replaced the fuse and on key up... it pops/blows...I'll try this weekend to see if both tubes are lighting next time. Otherwise who's a good tech to send this amp in for repair. I see the 2 tubes are soldered in w/the board components correct? I'm not that good w/a solder iron yet, around an amp capacitor..lol..lol
Thanks!

Bullet215,

It should have 2 - EL509 or EL519 tubes in it.

They should not be soldered in but in sockets.

Wear Gloves preferably RUBBER anytime when working on an Amplifier as some times when an amp has not been used in a long time the tubes can get stuck in the sockets.

Rubber Dishwashing gloves work well and are cheap at the grocery store.

Do not try and pull them straight up but kind of gently move them in a very small circle while pulling them up.

The EL-509/519 has 9 pins on the bottom of the tube.

KL-350 Manual / Schematics

Hope this helps,
