Okay....curious query...What would be a good apartment antenna? I've seen indoor dipoles, and the "saturn" antenna...which is best for distance running -say- a 142 gtl ?

Don't know for sure, but i've heard a properly constructed and tuned di-pole "can" out perform an A-99 or Imax2000. It can also be strung outside, say on your balcony, and no one will know its there, untill they hear you on their stereo or tv(lol). You could also use a 102" stainless that could be mounted to a balcony railing with a clamp and taken down when not in use. I believe in the power of the 102", the one on my truck out performs my 5/8 base antenna every day. Just my 2 cents worth.

Hello Assaulter,
Don't bother wasting your money on the Saturn.Worse antenna I ever bought.I'm in the same boat, looking for a small antenna.Been thinking about the Isotron.Good luck on your search.

I agree with Ill41. The Saturn antenna is a horrible compromise and is basically a 'rubber duckie'.

A homemade dipole is a great bet for your installation. Someone on evilbay sells one already built. I have not seen one myself, but a dipole is a dipole. Perhaps Copper has something? I could find anything in my search. Lon might know.

The isotrons are good for what they are but I would go with a dipole. Thumptacked to the wall in a V.

Before I'd pay all of that money for an Isotron I'd put a mag mount on my fridge. It'll probably work the same or better.

I bought an evilbay one (dipole), build your own, it's easy and cheap. In fact mine's not up, it's wrapped up in a crate.

Hmm...... I've never used the old fashioned dipole antenna. Seems like indoors they could put off a LOT of RF though??? Am I wrong?

Don't know, you'd think it would but i've never used one indoors, only outdoors. Guess there would only one real way to find out, try it.

Ill41,

I made one while waiting for this one to come in, I have it up now as a backup and it does well. Imax2000 is my primary as of now and I like it better.

Cant beat a tried and true dipole though.

Chad
