Big Coil antennas, as well as the Wilson 2000/5000 antennas, are exempt. Question: Since all whips have 0 db gain (According to this forum), out of the 7ft firestick, 6ft Anttron A-1700, and the Wilson 6ft silverload, which of these antennas do the truckers use, for a good all around antenna for skip and local talking, and why?

Personally, I would pick / choose the Astatic 3-K as so far I have not found any antenna that will out perform them on a BIG Truck for Transmit and Receive.

The Astatic 3-K WORKS GREAT!

Tough, Reliable, Dependable and Excellent Performance With or Without an Amp.

seeing as my predator 10k keeps blowing the triple magnet mount off the roof of my suv, i put an astatic 3kl on the triple magmount, replacing my wilson 2000 10" shaft on a mag mount.
the 3kl swr's are under 1.5 to 1 from 26.705 to 27.605, considerably better then the wilson. 90% of engine noise disappeared, i can hear much better then the wilson, and am heard much better by my base from several locations i frequent. it performs GREAT with 2xmrf454 amp, 2x2sc2879 amp and am convinced those results will continue with 1x4 amp later this week. definitely a keeper!

Wow, 10 guage wire? No wonder the astatic is loved by truckers. Most other whips are wire round with 18 to 14 guage wire. I wish astatic would produce a 6 or 5ft version instead of a 36" version, then I'd add this one to my collection.

I'm assuming of course, after looking at the link to the astatic 3k trucker, that the length is 36", or three feet maximum. If I am wrong techs, and if they come in 5ft, 6ft etc, then please correct me. Looks like a collectible.

Wolverine,

The 36" refers to the Stinger not overall length.

It is around 5' tall including the Stinger.
(sorry don't have one here to measure)

The base is around 24" tall with out the Stinger.

Astatic Linear Load 3k

Features include:
· Power rating of up to 3000 watts
· Exclusive Linear Load Design
· Highest Radiation Efficiency
· Frequency Range 26-30MHz (10 and 11 meter)

· Enameled 10ga. Solid Copper Wire
· 36” Tapered Stainless Steel Whip with Corona Ball

· Truck Tuned for CB – can easily be re-tuned for your vehicle

Hope this helps,

Gumball,

It should work GREAT as long as you have no clearance problems.

And use a HEAVY DUTY STUD MOUNT thru the roof.
