Well, have had it a week now, with some mixed reviews. When I first got it , did'nt work. Was not getting good contact inside. Fixed it. Good looking mic, but reports are that it makes me sound "tinny". Also it is almost too sensitive, just the acy of keying it makes a noise. Have the mic gain turned way down.... Using it on a 2985DX..... Stogie |

Hello, I have mine on a Ranger 2995dx base & i get glowing reports 100% of the time./ Sometimes in depends on what radio you have it on./ As with any other Mic./ If yours sounds tinny, then you might want to try a old Turner +3 base mic or something in that line with that radio./ JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

You may want to return that Mic also as something could be wrong with it./ Mine does not sound tinny on my 2995dx./ And i get no noise from keying it up./ JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

i realize that probably no one will want to do this to their brand new mic, but if they're the same element as the d104 then this will work. take the mic element out of the head and poke three holes about 3/16" around in a triangle shape. about 3/4" in from the edges. the measurements arent critical, but they will help you visuallize what im talking about. this will make your mic sound more bassy. ive done it and i liked it. matt |

Stogie, How did you make out using the Silver Salute? I was thinkin, i once had a radio that made even the best Mics sound horrible. D-104's, Turners, except Super Sidekick, saldelta, on and on. My friend had same radio but, audio was different as those mics sounded good on his./ I even talked off his and sounded good... Made me jealious...LOL... I sold radio...lol JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

After using the Silver Salute Mic for about a year now, i found it sounds alot better after i changed the mic element. Put a 500 ohm element out of a superstar stock mic into it. The side keyer fell off after little tab holding it on broke. Took tab off a junk D-104 base mic. Much stronger piece. |

My Silver Salute Desk mic is slowly falling apart. I talk alot of local everyday. Since i am very careful with all my equipment, i have formed an opinion that its quality is poor for heavy usage. |

My friend who works on mics and radios told me that most of the parts are high quality. I should of switched back and forth using both the side-bar and bottom bar. I used the side-bar 99.9% of the time, which wore side-bar section (middle) out from heavy usage. When i first bought this mic it sounded good on my 2995dx, but, tone was alittle high for my tastes. As i mentioned before, later on down the road i changed the mic element which gave it a lower tone more suitable for my radio and voice. |

the act of keying makes noise tells me ya either have it turned all the way up or close 2 to it. id turn it all the way down as this will also reduce background noises i.e. act of keying' so turn mic gain all the way up then turn power mic up 2 disered level usually 1/8 too 1/4 of a turn is plenty .if your adio limiter is clipped my idea probaly wont work.but this is how i run all my radios and mics i have no noises and have great audio reports .just my 2 cents worth dale/cef426 |
