I've read the mic forum and I still can't figure out which mic would be a good match for a stock uniden washington, I've been thinking about a silver salute or picking up a used turner off e-bay, I looked at a galaxy, but I've read that they don't like roger beep on ssb, which until now I've been a AM guy but with this new radio I'm going to give ssb a try! thanks Doug |

I had a Black and Chrome D-104 on a Washington and it sounded great on SSB. The Turners are known to be a great SSB microphone, and I even run a +3 on my Kenwood TS 480HX. But on my old Washington and my old Cobra 148 GTL the D-104 was a better sounding mic. Just my opinion good luck |

If you want a mike that looks good, buy the Silver Salute.(Personally I haven't heard one that sounds good.) If you want a mic that does the job and is just a plain old mic, go with a DM-452. THey sound good on most all radios. Unit199 Harve CEF210 Semper Fi!!! |

Use whatever microphone you like. Radios don't sound better with specific models of microphones, it's all about how your voice works with the microphone. Read this post I made a while ago: http://www.copperelectronics.com/discus4/messages/14/77285.html?1107485568 |

From experience different mics work different on the same radio./ My Ranger RCI 2995dx, Turner Mics are way to bassy, found Silver Salute & DM-452 to work best./ Once had a Galaxy Saturn, D-104 to Tinny, Turner +3 (tinny), Saldelta echo (Tinny), found one mic to work well on it and that was a Turner Super Sidekick./ Yes, your voice also has alot to do with it, but, there are other factors. I had a Uniden Washington years ago, used a Turner +3, sounded great./ But, i think like Lon said, DM-452 seems to sound great on most radios./ This mic sounds good on my RCI 2995dx & i heard it on other various radios & it sounds great! JIM/CENTRAL PA/CEF 375 |

Use different microphones and listen to yourself on another radio to hear how you sound. That way you'll know for sure how you sound and can decide for yourself. I tape myself while saying the same thing with different microphones to compare them, then I can listen to the differences over and over again. Jim - The interaction between your voice and the microphone element is the primary factor. After that it's the level of the microphone, impedance, and far down the line are the miniscule differences in the audio circuitry of each radio. I've got a friend who was an audio engineer at TV and radio stations for decades. Since retirement he's built a 2 room studio in his basement where he does voice work for fun. He's a microphone addict and owns ribbon microphones that are worth more than I paid for my new car. He can guess the microphone I'm using with astounding accuracy, but he has trouble guessing which CB I'm using. If a trained and experienced ear has trouble hearing a difference, I find it difficult to believe that there is a noticeable one. |
