Not in my opinion. I would get a new uniden grant (they still make 'em right?) Any way, as long as they still do, that's what I would get if that is the kind of radio I wanted. Otherwise I would go with the Magnum S9 if I wanted an export. BC |

the new 148 is great to me, after going all through the Galaxy line, I settled on the 148 because it has the best receive, use it every day in my work van with a palomar 250 & the Wilson 1000,mag.mount. a great skip shooter!!! |

Don't get me wrong the 148 is great, it just doesn't seem to be built as well as they used to be. Again, that's just my opinion. I do have to agree with you Troublemaker, Galaxy just dont do it for me either. BC |

the local cb shop here sells the newer 148's for $279.99. there are truckers around here buying them from there, too. when you stop laughing, i did put a road devil on 1 last fall. it still works fine, mic & radio. driver is happy with it & just asked me to get him a dx350 for it. SO, when i hook it up for him, i'll get to look inside a brand new texas star dx350 & i'll take a look & listen at the 148, too. |

Hey Truck drivers make the world go 'round but no one ever said that they are all the smartest cookies! Some are, but $279.00 for a 148!!! That's just funny! BC |

if i remember correctly the cobra 29 was $209, a galaxy 99 was over $400, & 1 of those cheapie 2-1446 amps that you can get for about $100 was $199. oh yeah-a returned 6900ftb was $499 ONLY because it was SLIGHTLY used. it was returned because the trucker didn't think it was loud enough. for $499 it was modded though. i suppose they could always get ripped off by 1 of those internet only radio stores... and before anybody says it- "THEY SHOULDA TRIED COPPER-HOME OF THE CEF" |

I agree with Bc! $279.00 for a 148 is robbery. I got mine 100 bucks cheaper. Correct they arent as good as they used to be. I had mine rebuilt. 33 componets swapped out for superior ones. Now I have a 148 in my mobile that can hang with the big dogs. Use one of them cheapy amps no prob. Skip contacts by the dozen! |

About a week and a half ago I was in a trucker CB shop on the interstate about 20 miles south of me and what did I see in the showcase? A Magnum S-9 priced at $450.00 and the truckers that don't know the right price will pay what this guy wants. He gets a minimum of $50.00 also $50.00 an hour, for any work he does. And to install antennas on an 18 wheeler he gets $100.00 for each antenna installed, plus the price of the antenna, coax and mount. I was only there looking around and he didn't get my money. Talk about rip offs. |

Hey matt I do not know the part numbers. Some people have never heard of this but I can tell a major difference in my recieve. As for transmit, its very loud and clean clear audio. I get unsolicited flowers all the time. I have really no noise from my car and the white noise level is very low. I hear distant stations with ease. |

Great Lakes: In answer to your post of 03/02/05. No the new Cobra 148 GTL is nothing like the first models. The first models were made in the Philippines and Malaysia by Uniden for Cobra, were top of the line, same radio as the Uniden Grant XL. The new Cobra 148 GTL is made in China. The best laugh I got was when I looked up the new Cobra 148 GTL the add said the Cobra 148 GTL is back, (I don't think so) the new Cobra 148 GTL is not Uniden made. BC-910: In answer to your post of 03/03/05, no Uniden is no longer making the Grant radios, The last model that Uniden did make was the Grant LT. Snowfire: I would make sure that those for $150.00 are not the ones made in China. Another thing guys and gals. As of maybe two years ago Uniden radios are no longer being made in the Philippines or Malaysia. So buyer be informed. |
