Got my amp today.
I was wondering If I should turn the grant down to 4 watts before I install this bad boy.
Any suggestions?

175aviator,

The Palomar Elite 300 is a 4 watt drive amp not sure on the Elite 400.

If you just got it today what does the instructions/specifications call for?

If it is a 4 watt drive Amp I would suggest around 2 to 2-1/2 watts and it will last a long time.

If your SWR Meter is wrong and you set your radio at say 3 or 4 watts and it is throwing 5 or 6 then it can go POOF Real Quick.

Just my thoughts,

can't give definitive answer either, but from what i can find the 'elites' are high drives & plain are 4 watt drive. can't find a listing for any low drive elite palomars.
BUT, what you can try,175, is,use 808's recommendation of 2-1/2 watts from the radio. your 450 elite should be a 4-sd1446 amp. so if on high, you get a deadkey anywhere near 120 watts & swing around 300-350 then it's low drive, & 2-3 watts from the radio is good.
you still need to find out if that amp is considered high or low drive, because if it dead keys in the 30 watt range & swings 100 watts with 2 watts from radio, then it is EITHER a high drive, or not working properly!
