Do both of these radios share many qualities of the export radios as in recieve and transmit quality? I was wondering too if there is a way to beef up the finals or make them dual? Also does anyone sell kits to make these radios have the same frequency coverage as for example a Galaxy 99V? J.C.B.

Why go to all the trouble, imho. Just get an export that has the features you want, rather than spend money and time modifying a type-accepted cb to get there. Im sure those are nice radios, though.

I have a 959.I have been told that it sounds good(stock mike) and it recieves good.I don't feel that the quality is as good as I expected. The knobs don't turn smooth like the ones on my 148.The dimmer is either full dim or full bright. The stock speaker sounds terrible.I have had to take it in twice because the LSB drifts,It drifted so far that I could not clarify people in.
It is a great looking radio though.I have 2-148 f's and I think they are of better quality.

I have had no problems with any knobs or controls the audio sounds fine but there is a audio upgrade kit and when installed it did run cooler even mobile stacked on top of my hr-2950 which is running on 10 meters both running off the same wire on ssb it is clean. Several changes seemed to help a channel guard filter and the diode kit cleaned up the reciver nicely. Mabey you should try to send back and have them go over the unit. I dont beleve your radio is typical of the 959.

You can by several dual final radios that are in the same price range as the Galaxy CB models. One such model is the VR-9000. Drift on SSB is a common Galaxy problem. Its what has prevented me from purchasing one. If you want a dual final radio, buy a dual final and dont waste time modifiying a single final radio. It will cost you less to simply purchase one.

I own a passel of Galaxy radios and not one of them has ever been used on sideband. My friends and I talk straight forty the most with occassional talk on the upper and lower side of the straight forty.Sideband has never been in our program so any drifting or clarifiering is a non existent problem for us.Sidebanders love sideband and we love straight channels. When 27.105 gets to noisy we will drop to the low side but you want catch any of us dropping to LSB.73's
