I had good results with Radio Shacks .64 wave back in the late 70's on a short mast in my back yard. so i'm kinda interested in the wolf .64. Thing is, is that I've never heard of using a GAMMA match on an omni.

the wolf .64 is about Half the cost of the I-10K which uses yet another method of feeding the antenna.

then there's the time honored Maco 5/8, the more common feed design which is about 1/2 the price of the Wolf .64

any comments, suggestions?

imho i think the maco would be the best all around antenna preformance ,price,.i personally think the I-10k is better made . i know if i lived in extreame windy conditions i wouldnt think twice about the I-10k. still people say what about price difference well if ya buy a maco v5000 $100. then have to replace it down the road then its another $100.00 now the price difference is alot closer.however i dont live in those type of weather i think the maco v5000 would do me fine.i wasnt reallyt impressed with the wolf point looked strange lol. just my 2 cents

18 years & my maco v5/8's has yet to need to be replaced. at that rate, the I10K would never pay for itself. EVEN if it had 2x the gain of the maco, what does that mean, i'd get out the 1 out of 20 times i can't right now? again, hardly worth the cost. oh, & it DOESN'T have any more gain then my maco.

The Maco V 5/8 is a good practical
antenna that works well.
The I-10k antenna also works very well.
It is built from very high quality parts.
The hardware is all stainless steel and
it uses high quality aluminum.

I had one of the Radio Shack Archer .64 antennas. It was the best CB antenna I ever used ever. I still have yet to find another antenna for 11 meters that gives comparable performance.

IMAX 2000 Base Antenna

A Quote from Tech833's Review of the IMAX 2000:

Imax 2000 Exposed (REVIEW)

(I was very surprised to find that the Imax 2000 is not a 5/8 wave as advertised. The Imax 2000 is actually a .64 wave! The .64 wave is one of the best kept secrets in CB and 10 meter antennas.)

TECH 808,

I think you mentioned in a much earlier post that you once owned a Maco V 5/8./ I was just
wondering why you like the Imax 2000 better?

Road_warrior,

The main Problem I had was with Birds and Ice & Wind breaking the Horizontal Radials off of the antenna.

I have since created a "Kit" for the Maco Antennas with Horizontal Radials that solves this problem.

I am testing one "Kit" now on the M103HV Beams I have and will be heading to Iowa to Moderator136's home to install a kit on his M105's to test thru this winter with the Ice and Winds here in the mid-west.

If I can afford it I will purchase a MACO V-5000 or ALPHA V 5/8 and stick it up this winter for testing with the Radial Kit in it.

The Imax 2000 has been UNSTOPABLE and Performed Flawlessly in Every Condition there is including 85+ Wind Shear, Ice, and everything else that Mother Nature has thrown at it and the SWR is still a 1:1 across the 11 Meter/CB band.

Tech 808,

You must really have some brutal winters!
Good Luck with your testing of your radial
kit.

Road_warrior,

I guess you did not see the pictures I posted of the SE Quads and Imax last winter.

The Forummaster even called and said WHAT KIND OF ANTENNA IS THAT when he seen the picture of the SE Quads.

We have VERY BRUTAL WINTERS HERE!

Tuesday we had 6 straight hours of 70-80MPH Straight Line Winds and Antennas are still up.

The Imax does have very low wind resistance and
ice will most likely slide off. Or at least
not hurt it. Never seen any fiberglass antenna
break in winds around here.
BRUTAL!

I wanna know what kind of Pterodactyl Birds are sitting on your antenna radials.

Came home to birds lined up on all my radials, went to get camera but they left before I got the picture but the radials did not fail but these were little birds.

We have some Hawks and Turkey Buzzards around
here that once in a great while will perch on
my antenna.
Pulled rod and wire off beam i once had up.
