I am thinking of getting either the Delta or the Omega Force. I am a little confused as to exactly what are the differences. Does the Delta have the top gun modulator. What is a top gun modulator? I would really like to know the differences between these two radios. Thanks |

For example, what is used in the output statge of the omega. What is used for finals in the delta? It claims to put out more power than the delta.

The Omega Force was the next generation Delta Force. It has the Top Gun Modulator installed which allows a 1 watt to 40 watt swing, or a variable power setting. It retained most all of the Delta Force features including scan and memory channels. I know the new Omega Forces have the blue LED lights, and I think dual microphone inputs (one on each side, the Magnum 6 pin on left, and the CB standard Uniden/Cobra wired 4 pin outlet on the right side). Many of the newer Magnum radios included the Top Gun modulator, but they left behind the scan and/or memory stations the Delta's and Omega's have. Omega's are a nice radio. I enjoy my Delta Force tremendously but would consider an Omega as quite the nice replacement. Alsworld p.s. I think Coppers website may be outdated showing the blue lit Omega unless they still have some of the older style radios for sale. Still a good radio just minus the second mic input. |

It has been stated that the Omega uses a pair of 2sd1969 finals. Also that a 2 pill amp is NOT to be used with the omega. What finals are in the Delta? Can a 2pill amp be used with a delta? My problem is that I do not want to put a very high power amp in my vehicle. I am afraid of current draw and glitching the vehicles computer. I wonder how much current a four pill amp would draw. Thanks

as alsworld said, 'I enjoy my Delta Force tremendously but would consider an Omega as quite the nice replacement', & if cash flow ever allows, i'd like to sandwich an omega between my delta & S9,(& of course, ar3500!) as for amplifiers, the delta will work with ANY of the so-called high-drive amps, & work well. just remeber to keep the (variable) dead key at or below where amp manufacturer states, for high drives, that's usually less then 10 watts AM, 25w on SSB. as with the S9, the omega is best (most easily) matched with a texas star dx500. that's not to say you can't make it work with anything else, you just need to use patience & have the resourses to try multiple amps til you get the right 1. a dx500 will draw anywhere between 40 & 60 amps, depending on input. i have found HIGH QUALITY COAXIAL CABLE to be the difference with rfi problems in moderately powered mobiles. |

Dan I have had both radios. The Omega has a much quieter receiver. Both are great radios. I would choose the Omega though.

Other than the nice round meter on the S-9, the Omega Force S-45 has lots more features and is cheaper. I guess from what I read they talk about the same. mikefromms |

for mobile use, mike, i find the S9 easier to operate when moving, then my delta force, which is set up just like the omega. otherwise, for base use, the omega at 60 bucks less may be the more economical choice! magnummagnummagnummagnummagnummagnum.... |

...remember, it has 8 bands, so you get(if copper mods it) bands 'A' thru 'H', though, internal programming will give ANY 8 you choose, in ANY order if you prefer to mix 'em up!!! |

I have a Delta Force that I bought used and I dont know who did the mods. However I am very happy with quietness and high sensitivity of the reciever. Most of the time the RF gain cotrol is set at about 60%. The recieve audio on strong siginals is real smooth sounding at this setting. Wish the power control was adjusable from 4 watts idle allowing me to add the power as it is needed. Low seting is about 8 watts idle. For local chit chat you just dont need more than 4 or 5 watts and a good base antenna. Why draw unessessary attention to yourself by running high power all the time? Unless of corse you just gotta stomp on some mud ducks to get the job done <grin>. |
