..any comments out there? I'd like to put it in my 97 Jeep Grand Chero. It'll go between my Grant XL (DK 3 swinging 8-10)and Wilson 2000 trucker residing on the roof. Should I be concerned with the vehicles ECM or current drain at the least? Comments on the amp itself? Was considering the 300 for under $100 but thinking that twice the output may be a good thing for under $200? Thanks for any input on my future OUTPUT . Hank '905 CEF559 |

the kl500 USED to use 4 x mrf455's(60 watts each) & may now use a relabled RM transistor(still 60 watts). expect to see closer to 250 watts from it, rather then the advertised 600. the 300 is more along the output of your palomar. try to find out what size alternator & battery is in your jeep. you may prefer to go the texas star route, for the ability to upgrade radio, or increase amp output, if the charge system & computer will accept it. |

My KL-500 has 4 1446's in it. I have had it for two years now and have driven it with my Grants a Delta Force, my Alpha Force and currently my Omega. It is a great performer on both AM and SSB. Loud and clear and proud is all I can say. She does a max amp draw of 34 so your Jeep should be able to handle it. I am running 8 gauge wire from the battery. With an export she does get a little warm if you get long winded so I installed a fan that I bought from Radio Shack for $20 and attached it to the heat sinks so if I get long winded I plug it in and that keeps her nice and cool. Now I am glad I purchased this amp and would never part with it and am going to move it into the house as a base amp and replace it BUT for the money the Magna Force 350 is a better choice and the one I would go with now unless you are dealing with extremely tight installation issues. Bang for the buck the Magna Force 350 is hard to beat and if I could go back in time and talk to myself that would be the amp in my Buick. |

Magnaforce 350, I agree is best for bang for the buck. I also prefer amps with 4- 1446 transitors over the to 2 pill- 1446's. Wolverine. |

Yea I was kind of expecting the output to be around 200-250 with the drive I'm putting into it. Thats about the output($$$$$) I'm looking for and thought it might be better to run the 500 "cool" than run the 300 HOT! Was tryin to stay with an amp from copperelectronics.com. Copper sell anything else worth recommending for my application? I didn't find any texas star mobiles here?...I keep lookin...half the fun! Thanks for all the input..keep it comming. Trying for most bang for $200 or under (so far ) BTW Pat..I put my own battery in and its a 800 CCA unit. The Chero has the 318-V8 and tow package so I think it has the 65amp alt. Hank '905 CEF559 |

...scratch that last comment about not finding T/S amps here on Copper: W90-00230 Texas Star DX 350HDV Mobile * $ 189.99 FEATURES: Frequency: 28-29.7 Mhz 350W/30A 2-2SC2879 Variable Power W/SSB Delay Supply: 12V Meter-RF Relative Output Indicator and lights during transmission This is already set to run on 11meter as long as I buy it here right? I should "Expect" around 250ish pep out of this rig? Not sure what the 2879's are rated for? Same price as the KL500...hmmmm... high class problems huh? Thanks again~ Hank........ "00" did this to me~ Next I'll sell all my Surf fishing gear for an S-9! |

oohhhhh! 65 amp alternator??? gotta be more then that! my amplifier draws more then that! my mopar w/5.2(318!) STOCK alt is a 117 amp. for about $210 a magnaforce 350 will key 125 & swing 350-400, with 3 watts dead key & all the swing you can throw at it! for about $225, a sideband modded/with preamp Xforce 200 class 'C' will get you 150-175 dead key & 375 or more swing. the texas star dx350 will key around 100 & swing 250. my choice, too would be 1 of the forces, but i'd prefer even the texas star over the klv. |

NOTE! I am re-posting this for Wolverine, " Also the Magna-Force 350 will put all of it's watts on the channel that you are talking on, as opposed to bleeding, and wasting power/watts (Harmonics), on the channels that you are not talking on. But as the old saying goes, "Whatever floats your boat". In other words, buy what you really want, to suit your needs" Wolverine.

..my mistake on the alt rating. It's the 136a nippon denso in the Jeep. I had my GTO on my mind. I bought a 65a rebuilt 3 mo ago for that car to replace the weenie stocker. Hank |

Wolverine, If you like Amplifiers with 4 - 1446's in them then you will LOVE the KL-500 with 4 - 1446's in it. Beerman CEF #322 and us both have had them for over a year now with -0- Problems and they are one of the Best Amps on the Market at a very reasonable price. 300 watts on am and pep of 475 to 500 on ssb And they are cheaper than the Magnaforce 350. Just our personal experience with the KL-500 Lon Tech808 CEF808 N9OSN

Your point Tech 808 is taken. Not a bad amp for the money. Reliability is what counts, and sells amps, and this amp appears to be reliable. |
