ok Guy's I eventually got the wiring sorted out for the Heil dual element mic to 8 pin Kenwood. Keep in mind that the wiring sequence changed a few times during manufacture of these mic's
This is what worked for me.
Yellow to pin 1
Red to pin 2
Shield to pin 7
Black to pin 8

I never pay attention to the color of the wires. I wire microphones with a VOM and a clip lead. I use the VOM to determine the ground and audio wire/pin, and the clip lead to determine the TX and RX wire/pin.

If you learn how to do it that way you'll never worry about wire color and you'll be able to wire nearly all microphones to nearly all radios without any information other than the radio and microphone.

Where did I learn to do it that way? http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/checkitout/checkitout.cgi?catalogSTORE:CKIE:prodBKS-00020+

BTW - I loved my TS140. It's an excellent radio for SSB use, and the analog meter is tough to beat. They're built like a tank and as long as they're treated well should last for decades. I wish I'd have kept mine instead of selling it when I bought my TS450SAT.

Oldpirate,

Just a side note on wiring a microphone to 6 Pin Magnum Radios.

Be very careful when using a VOM with a 6 Pin Magnum Radio if you ever try and wire a mic to it using Clips or a VOM and make sure you do not allow anything to touch/short Pin #6 which is 13.8 volts from the radio or your CPU can go POOF instantly.

I personally always CLIP/SNIP Pin 6 completely out of the Mic Connector to prevent any possible chance of shorting it out.

Pin #6 is only used to supply power to certain Ham microphones that need/require power.

Hope this helps,

Lon
