JUST GOT MY DOSY TEST CENTER FROM COPPER AND HAVE QUESTION -- I WAS GOING TO CHECK MODULATION PERCENT ON ALL MY RADIOS , BUT THE ONES I HAVE THE DK DOWN ON WON,T BRING NEEDLE UP TO SET POSITION ON METER . IS THIS NORMAL ? WILL I HAVE TO TURN MY DK UP TO 4 OR 5 WATTS TO PERFORM THIS FUNCTION ? |

Not that its ANY help but my older 4001 does the same thing...most of the time. That was until the "SET" switch broke from age..now Mod set doesn't work at all.

'modulation' METERS are about as accurate as...well, nothing, really. |

I agree. Modulation meters are poor at best, and with a radio that doesn't do normal full carrier AM they're useless because you can't calibrate them properly with the full carrier.
They work by reading the signal voltage over the the carrier's voltage as a percentage of modulation, but if your radio has a reduced carrier it can't be calibrated for the carrier power reference voltage. |
