You can get a Magnaforce 350 . A great bang for the buck. Great on AM and SSB. Transistors 2 x 2SC2879 Amp Draw (maximum) 29 Class B Power Output (RMS) 150 Watts Power Output (PEP) 400 Watts

I agree with simpleman, only I would'nt key the magna-force with the maximum 150 rms watts, because I'd want the amp to last a long time. I'd set my radio to key 3 watts, or whatever it takes to make the amp key 80 to 100 watts rms, and let it "Swing" up to 380-400 watts. Your audio will sound much better. Wolverine. |

By the way 1861, going from the TS 250 to the TS 400 (extra 75-100 watts)is not really going to make any difference in DX land. Save your money for the Texas star 500 or 667- more bang for the buck. Now if you are going from a kl-40 or kl-60 amp, to a TS-400, that would be a marked improvement. Wolverine. |

Dont get me wrong...Texas Star is a great amp. Its just not the good bargain it used to be . The last few years the price of TS has gone up so much that you can get a custom built amp for around the same price. Theres alot of good amp builders out there that can and will build anything to suit your needs from a key down box to a AB class. Most of your custom boxs have built in cooling fans..unlike the Texas Stars . Most come with alot better warranty than Texas Star. Just my .02 73 Hank |

Just remember, although custom built amps with a fan, are built much better than mass produced comercial amps, and they put all of your audio on the desired frequency, they are designed for swr's of 1.3 or less. Some commercial amps for some reason, appear to be able to take SWR's over 2.0, go figure. trust me wolverine, i know of a davemade m200(2x2879) that has operated with swrs consistently over 2:1 for YEARS with no ill effects. of course if he'd just swap antennas for a tunable one & get swr's to 1.1:1 his reflected power would decrease to the point where he'd show noticeable gain |
