I have a chance to buy one of these. Has anyone any thought's on this radio. I heard it ON-AIR and it sounded great. Good smooth CLEAN modulation. I think Im going to add it to my radio collection. I was not able to find very much information about it on the web.
Well what do you think?
This is a great forum. I have learned a lot from the group on here. Thanks very much to Copper Electronics and all the moderators.

I have a sb540d, mint condition. Clarifier acessable via the hand mic. The first cb with a processor. Faceplate is silver with handles .
It can be converted to cover more frequencies, but they will be 5k off, as in 27.110. You can use a crystal switch via relay at the board.
Everyone says my SB540D is my loudest radio, although the wattmeter doesn't show it? The RX meter swings backward with strong stations unless you back the RF gain down. I've heard this was common for the radio, I'd like to find a cure for that. I've messed around with CB's for many years, bought , sold, traded hundreds. I only keep "special" ones. Thats one of them. I've never even seen another aluminum faceplate SB540D, only black colored.
I'd buy it

Thanks for the replies. I have the radio now and am test driving it. So far it seems to be working very good. The on air reports are smooth clear audio. I was on ch 13 lsb today but did not have good conditions, mostly noise. I did not hear any other CEF members. OH well maybe next time. This SB-540D has a aluminum faceplate. It is in excellent condition. The keypad channel selector is cool for a radio this old. This one just might make it into my perminant collection.
Thanks again for the replies.
