When did they stop making these radios? Are the newer ones any less desirable?

As far as I can tell the newer Uniden Grant LT is very close to being much the same radio as the Uniden Grant XL, and the older models of the Cobra 148 GTL and the Cobra 2000 GTL and I've also been told that the newer model of the Uniden Madison with the digital clock are also the same mother boards, as far as to when or why the Uniden Grant XL was discontinued I've no idea.

Many Cobra 2000 GTL owners will say there's not a better radio than the Cobra 2000 GTL, but what a lot of them don't know is that all the radios I've mentioned above are all very much the same once the covers are off.
What I'm trying to put across is, the Cobra 2000 GTL is no better than it's brothers and all the mods will work on all of them.
It seems that a few newer radios have also come along, so far and as far as I'm aware of the only radio you can still buy new on the open market that will be the same as the famous Uniden Grant XL is the General Sherman and for those who are not aware, the General Sherman is a mobile radio and the same radio as the first models "pre 1994" of the Cobra 148 GTL and any of the Uniden Grant XLs.
Any Cobra radio made after 1994 is not of Uniden manufacture, that was when China started making radios for Cobra.

Hi Keith,
Congratulations on the blessed event of finding a new Grant XL. I remember you said you were hunting a new one, almost don't what to ask what the price tag was. Some of the prices I've seen on new old stock are out of this world. I've seen some as high as $200.00 new in the box, and worth every cent of the asking price. Nice Christmas gift for yourself.
Enjoy yours, as I have mine with the hard wired FC-347 frequency counter.

Cool deal. Definitely worth the money. I wish I could come across the sweet deals I've read about others getting an unmolested Grant or Filipino 148 for next to nothing.

gotta stay up late, go for the e*auction radios that end 3AM, & hope some %&**# didn't bid 'em up real high too early. LT for UNDER $140 with shipping, NIB, & tape WAS still in place on plastic bag...

Good advice Pat - I've been doing that for a while. Lately I've been looking for a parts radio, but they also seem to sell for more than I'm willing to spend.

Good deal on the LT - they don't seem to go for as much as the XLs do.

Found my Extremely Clean Grant XL on ebay. I stayed up very late (for me) to make sure I got it. I got it for $102. By the way my hat's off to COPPER. I ordered my Texas Star 500V on Tuesday morning and it was here yesterday (Thursday)
