2 switches & 2 wires will get ya 26.7 to 27.96 & an open clarifier will fill in any "A's".

you're talking $320 for a 'standard' S9(plus a power supply) that you do the quickie 'export mode' mod to, or $290 for a stock 696 base, that needs a couple wires & switches along with holes drilled, & the clarifier still needs to be opened. you do it all-a couple bucks. you need to send it out-maybe $75 or more....

I just did this "MOD", but what I want to know is, can I talk on the other frequencies & still be fairly safe? or are the frequencies 26.965-27.965 the only frequecies recommended for this modification???????????????

under channel 1(below 26.965) & above channel 40(above 27.405) are ILLEGAL. but then again so are amps, open clarifiers, & even the fact that you took the screws out of the radio & touched the inside. do i use SOME of those freqs? sometimes. don't ever go into the 10 or 12 meter bands(over 28.0 & under 25.0 mHz) & you have less of a chance of getting in trouble. same with amps-bleed the heck out of everyone & cause tons of interference & you're just asking for trouble.

the majority of AM DX/activity below 1 is on 26.735, 26.835, 26.915, & on SSB 27.555USB is the 'international DX calling freq', & most DX stations QSY to '0' freqs 27.600 or below. while many of these freqs are assigned to 'other' radio services, i HIGHLY doubt those services even have equipment that operates on those freqs anymore. while each time you key on an illegal freq, you are risking repercussions, chances of getting 'in trouble' are slim to none. unless you are causing interference to someone.
